This charming Valentine balloon project requires just a few materials! You can also personalize the balloons by sketching your own designs, adding heart stickers, or creating fingerprint hearts.

Materials Required
Only a few items are necessary for this craft! We especially appreciate that it incorporates recycled materials. If you enjoy creating with reused supplies, check out our book, featuring an entire chapter devoted to paper roll projects.
- Paper Roll – use either a paper towel tube or a toilet paper tube
- Paint – red or pink paint. We prefer using acrylic paint.
- Photo – take a photo of your child acting as though they are holding balloons, then print the image. You can print it from your computer with photo paper. Another option is printing the picture onto white cardstock.
- White Cardstock
- Ultra fine point sharpie or a black pen
- Glue stick

How to Create the Paper Roll Balloon Valentine
1. Begin by photographing your child pretending to hold a balloon.
Print the image from your computer on photo paper. You may also print it on white cardstock.
2. Secure the photo onto a sheet of white cardstock.
3. Shape the paper roll into a heart.
Fold a paper roll until it forms a heart shape. It should remain in position after folding. Should it begin to loosen, secure it with an elastic band.
4. Use the paper roll as a stamp.
Dip the paper roll into red or pink acrylic paint, then press it onto the white cardstock to create heart shapes. Fingerprints, heart stickers, or hand-drawn heart balloons can also be used.
5. Continue adding stamps.
Make enough heart prints so they resemble a cluster of balloons.
6. Sketch the balloon strings.
With an ultra fine point sharpie or black pen, draw strings leading from the heart balloons down to the hand.
We also placed a small mark beneath each heart to give it the appearance of a balloon.
There’s no need to draw a separate string for every balloon. For several balloons near the top, simply extend a short line toward the balloon below.
Your Valentine balloon project is finished! Add a meaningful note or write “Happy Valentine’s Day” on the page.
