For Independence Day, children’s crafts naturally shift toward red, white, and blue, just as you would expect. You may even want to recreate familiar projects using the USA color scheme, since there are countless wonderful possibilities.
BUT perhaps you’re looking to revisit an activity you haven’t done in a while. Something entertaining for children of every age. Something you may have overlooked?

If it has been some time since you bought perler beads, these designs can help you get started again. They’re suitable for ages six and older, making this a delightful project to enjoy with children. Kids adore perler beads, which are also called hama beads, fuse beads, or melty beads.
Below, you’ll find more than 25 designs featuring classic Independence Day figures and emblems, including Uncle Sam, flags, stars, patriotic hearts, the Statue of Liberty, and more. Some are quite easy, while others offer a greater challenge.
Children aren’t the only ones who enjoy them. EVERY time I set out the beads for my nieces at home, the grown-ups participate too. Every single time!

Fourth of July Perler Beads
Be sure to keep these tips in mind:
- Several designs exceed the size of a 29 x 29 pegboard, so you’ll need either anextra large pegboard(49 x 69 tall) or several square pegboards arranged together to create a bigger “canvas.”
- Along with square pegboards, you’ll also find heart and round pegboards. They’re useful additions to your collection if you intend to make plenty of perler projects.
- You may notice that a few pattern backgrounds below are not white – this is only for contrast, making it easier to identify where the white beads belong. Adding the background is optional.
- There’s no need to copy my colors exactly. Personalize each design using your preferred bead colors or shades.
- I generally arrange my list from the simplest, smallest designs to the more challenging, larger ones. If your favorite hasn’t appeared yet, continue browsing!

These designs are created on the smaller square boards, which measure 14 x 14.
Three Patriotic Stars
Below are three Fourth of July star variations made on small star boards with patriotic color combinations, using star pegboards.

The design on the left uses a small heart pegboard. The one on the right shows a red, white, and blue interwoven heart. The gray sections represent either clear beads or spaces that should remain empty.

You’ll need 134 dark blue beads and 134 red beads for this design. To assemble the star, slide the upper section down over the lower section.
Statue of Liberty Flag
This design calls for 83 light blue, 106 red, 102 white, 9 yellow, and 45 pastel blue beads.
Heart-Shaped Flag on a Square Board
No heart pegboard? No problem—you can still create a flag-shaped heart! This design requires 60 black, 78 dark blue, 132 white, and 106 red beads.
