The ripped paper owl project is an enjoyable autumn or bird-themed activity for children and a chance for young learners to strengthen their fine motor abilities.
For this project, children will rip colored construction paper into tiny pieces and attach them all onto a large sheet of paper arranged in an owl shape.
Although ripping paper might appear to be an easy pastime, it offers multiple advantages. It supports fine motor development and hand-eye coordination, since children must use their fingers and hands to hold and control the paper. It may also serve as a helpful way to ease stress and anxiety for children and grown-ups alike.
Our ripped paper owl project will feature the children’s handprint along with a bow tie or hair bow. The printable project template includes various colors as well as black-and-white choices for the bows. Children may color their own, or select the already-colored versions.

Materials:
The printable template includes two choices:
- Choice 1 – print straight onto colored paper
- Choice 2 – trace the designs onto colored paper
How to create the handprint owl
Begin by attaching ripped brown paper pieces to the owl shape, continuing until the entire surface is covered.
Attach the eyes and beak to the owl.
Outline the child’s hands on brown paper, snip out the handprints and attach them to both sides of the owl. Place one handprint on either side of the owl.
Place the feet along the lower part of the body.
Attach the branch at the very bottom of the black background sheet.
Position the owl in the center of the black paper, placing its feet on the tree branch.
Add a few stars surrounding the owl.
Give the owl either a bow tie or a hair bow.
