It’s time for some charming Easter Clay Ideas. We really enjoy crafting with air-drying clay at Red Ted Art HQ, and we also love creating easy Pinch Pot Projects throughout the year. Today, we have a delightful Easter Pinch Pot Idea to share with you. These Easter Egg Pinch Pots are incredibly simple and can be decorated in all sorts of styles.

The idea for the Chick’s Pipecleaner legs came from the arms on Make It Your Own’s Snowman Pinch Pot! Such a playful idea.
Supplies needed to create Pinch Pots:
We prefer purchasing clay in bulk – and usually choose clay like this:
This white clay is another popular option
- white air drying clay (a wonderful choice when you want a bright white finish without painting, although it is MUCH pricier and therefore best suited to small projects like ornaments)
If you have some hardened air-drying clay, this is how you can soften it and reuse it. However, this method only works with natural clay and not polymer clays.
How to create a Pinch Pot Chick & Egg

Begin with a clay ball for the pinch pot
Pinch pots are genuinely very simple to make!!! I personally think starting with a basic round form works best! So create the simple shape first and develop it from there.
First, knead your clay until it becomes a lovely smooth ball. If your clay feels slightly firm, add a little water as you work. When it is VERY hard, soften the air-drying clay the day before using it.
Use your thumbs to form the pinch pot
After forming a clay ball that sits comfortably in your palm, press both thumbs into its centre.
Then use your thumb and index finger to shape the walls. Smooth away any cracks with a little water as you continue.
Turn the pinch pot into an egg shape
When you are pleased with the basic form, gently pinch one side of the bowl so it becomes slightly more oval and egg-like.
Take around 5 minutes to use a little water to smooth the walls, outer sides and inside of the egg pinch pot.
If you like, use a chopstick or something similar to create two holes in the bottom of the egg pinch pot. Later, these openings can hold pipecleaner legs for the chick pinch pot design!!
Now leave your Egg Pinch Pot to dry completely – depending on how warm and dry your area is, this may take several days.
After it has dried completely.. decorate it in your chosen colours with acrylic paints, gloss enamels or posca pens!
