Our Greatest Makes Ever collection carries on! This series was created to turn everyday materials into creative projects! Today, we’re crafting these charming little Popsicle Stick Flower bookmarks with recycled ice lolly sticks (we always run them through the dishwasher before using them for crafts!) and leftover paper! You could also create them with felt pieces if you prefer.. or perhaps some bright “children’s artwork”? They’re enjoyable to make for any occasion, but would be especially sweet as a Mother’s Day Present or a Teacher Appreciation Gift!

These lollipop flower bookmarks can easily be personalised as well! Add sweet little touches to the lolly stick stem – a name, a flower, a bug! It’s up to you!

The Greatest Makes Ever Series is a collection of creative art and craft videos that Art Crafty Kids and I made for Sky Kids UK between 2020 and 2022. Now let’s make our Lollipop Flower Bookmarks!
Materials required for these adorable Paper Flower Bookmarks
We crafted these popsicle stick flowers from paper – making them more environmentally friendly and available to “everyone”. You could use the same method with felt for greater durability or lightweight card! Simply use whatever materials you have nearby!
- Cleaned and dried popsicle sticks (or craft sticks, although I recommend reusing your summer ice lolly sticks)
- Paper pieces in your chosen colors
- Paint or Pens (to decorate the popsicle stick and draw features on the kawaii flower faces)
- Individual Hole punch (optional)
- Scissors
- Glue stick
When you use washed ice lolly sticks and leftover paper, this is almost a completely free popsicle stick flower bookmark project!

Making popsicle flower bookmarks
Let’s begin creating these incredibly cute flower bookmarks for Mom, Teacher Appreciation week or simply for fun! They would also make a lovely summer craft for library craft activities!
Paint your ice lolly stick green:
For this project, I painted the lolly sticks green. However, I’ve also had excellent results simply coloring our lolly sticks with felt tip pens! As always, use whatever supplies you have available.
Also: since one end of the lolly stick will be covered with a flower, you can leave that end unpainted – which makes the activity tidier!
I’m sharing two flower styles today to give you some inspiration! The first, our basic purple-headed flower, can easily be changed into many different designs. The second one is a beautiful sunflower!
Prepare your flower petals – we created 6:
I chose to create a purple flower with 6 petals.
The important thing is for every petal to have the same shape and dimensions. To do this, I cut 3 paper strips.
Next, I folded each one in half.
After that, I sketched a petal outline.
Once cut out… I had 6 matching petals.
Create the flower centre – ensure all the petals fit:
I arranged the 6 petal shapes to make sure they formed a pleasing flower (top right image).
Next, I cut a circle to form the flower’s centre. A penny can be used as a tracing template if useful.
Make sure the circle looks attractive when placed over your petals.
When selecting colors – think about the color wheel for complementary
colors etc. I think purple pairs beautifully with yellow.
Assemble paper flower head:
Apply glue to the rear of the yellow flower centre.
Attach one petal to it.
Next, position a second petal OPPOSITE the first one – this makes it easier to distribute the petals evenly.
Stick on the rest of the petals. Your basic flower shape is now complete. You could attach it to the green craft stick at this point, but we enjoy adding a few adorable flower accents as well!
Add Popsicle Stick Flower Details:
I snipped out a pair of rosy cheeks. A single-hole punch would work for making these too.
I chose to create a tiny ladybird as well. You could include other decorations, such as miniature bees.
After that, I sketched a basic face on the flower.
Then I attached the rosy cheeks with glue.
Final Flower Bookmark Assembly:
Cover the top of your green popsicle stick stem with plenty of glue, then attach the flower head.
To finish, decorate it with any fun little features, such as the ladybird!
Your first Flower Craft Stick Bookmark is now complete!
Make a Popsicle Stick Sunflower Bookmark
This is the method I used to create my sunflower bookmark!
Cut the Sunflower Circles:
I began by cutting one larger brown circle, approximately the size of a 2 pence piece.
Using the brown circle as a guide, I placed it on yellow paper and cut a larger circle around it.
I made cuts around this bigger circle, taking care not to snip the brown one. The brown circle helped show me how far to cut.
I then shaped the cuts into small indentations, creating tiny triangle-like points.
Final Sunflower Bookmark Assembly:
Secure the brown circle in position.
Draw small facial details with a black pen, then add some rosy cheeks made with a hole punch!
Your popsicle stick sunflower bookmark for Mom is ready!
Explore different flower petals and flower colors:
Have fun experimenting with various shapes, shades, and decorations.
Your petals can be rounded, like the blue flower, or narrow and pointed, like the white flower.
I also love that adding bees and ladybirds can make the flowers resemble a hair bow! So enjoyable!
