Preparing recipes as a family is a wonderful way to enjoy holiday time with your children.Kids will be happy to help arrange the candy corn, candy eyes and M&M’s on the Oreos. They don’t need to look flawless – they’ll still turn out beautifully!

Ingredients Required
With these 6 ingredients, you can quickly create turkeys from Oreo cookies:
- Orange M&Ms (or replace the M&M’s with a candy corn)
- Red mini M&Ms(or replace the M&M’s with a candy corn)

We chose milk chocolate chips for this recipe, though you’re welcome to use whichever kind of chocolate you prefer. It serves as the ‘adhesive’ while putting everything together. Other possibilities include milk chocolate bars, bittersweet chocolate, or even melting wafer candies.
Standard candy eyeballs are available in the baking aisle of most grocery stores or in the cake-decorating area of a craft store.
Orange or yellow Reese’s Pieces are another option for making the beak in this recipe instead of orange M&Ms.
If you’d rather not use the M&M’s (since they may be somewhat difficult to secure), a candy corn can be used for the beak:

Helpful Tips for Creating Oreo Thanksgiving Turkeys
- Choose regular or double-stuffed Oreos for this recipe. We advise against Oreo thins because they don’t contain sufficient filling.
- Avoid refrigerating the turkeys while the chocolate firms up. Certain candy eyeball brands may bleed in the refrigerator. Wilton candy eyeballs, a popular brand found in grocery stores, are known for this issue. Refrigeration can also make M&Ms develop a cloudy appearance.

Storing Oreo Turkeys
Keep any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for as long as two weeks. Arrange them in a single layer inside the container so they retain their form.

-
Place the chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl and heat it in 20-second intervals, stirring until silky smooth.
-
Carefully twist apart the Oreos, separating each cookie into 2 pieces. Set one half down with the cream center facing upward.
-
Coat the white end of 5 candy corn pieces with the melted chocolate, then arrange them flat side down along the top half of the cookie to form the turkey tail.
-
Position the remaining Oreo half over the top.
-
Coat the narrow side of the orange M&M with chocolate and secure it to the lower portion of the Oreo, making the turkey beak. Next, dip the thin side of the red M&M into the chocolate and place it next to the orange M&M to form the turkey wattle.Should the M&M’s refuse to hold in place, a piece of candy corn can be used as the beak instead.
-
With a toothpick, spread a little melted chocolate onto the underside of 2 candy eyeballs, then stick them above the beak.
-
Continue the process with the rest of the Oreos.
-
Let the cookies rest at room temperature for 20-30 minutes, or until the chocolate has hardened.
