Paper Plate Crayon Resist Earth Craft

Crayon resist activities are consistently enjoyable. To make this project a little more exact, we have a Free Printable Earth Template featuring the continents, which you can cut out and trace using a white crayon. Of course, you may also draw them freehand.

Before creating our watercolor Earth, you will need the Earth printable template. You will also need paper plates, a white crayon, watercolors, and scissors.

Paper Plate Crayon Resist Earth Craft Supplies Needed

Crayon Resist Earth Craft Step by Step Directions

Begin by printing our Earth template.

Next, cut out the 3 continent sections from the template.

Place one continent section onto the paper plate. With a white crayon, trace around its edges. To hold it steady, you can also use doubled up masking tape. Alternatively, leave out the template and draw the shapes freehand. Do this with all 3 continent paper sections.

After outlining every continent, get your watercolors ready. Start filling in the oceans within the crayon outlines. This is an ideal opportunity to teach about the oceans and land found on our Earth.

Aim to color the oceans blue. However, a little blue on the land is perfectly fine. Mix in some purples along with various blue watercolor shades. Watching the white crayon outlines appear as you paint is especially enjoyable.

After painting all the oceans, use green watercolor to fill in the land.

When your Earth craft has been fully painted, allow it to dry thoroughly.

We really enjoyed making this Earth Day craft, and we hope you enjoy it as well!

Instructions

  1. Start by printing our Earth template.
  2. Cut the 3 continent sections out of the template.
  3. Set one continent section on the paper plate.
  4. Trace around the continent with a white crayon.
  5. Do the same with all 3 continent paper sections.
  6. After outlining the continents, use watercolors to paint the oceans inside the crayon lines. This is a wonderful moment to discuss the oceans and land on our Earth.
  7. Try to color the oceans blue, though a little blue on the land is fine, too. Blend in purples and several shades of blue watercolor. It’s exciting to watch the white crayon lines show through while painting.
  8. Once the oceans are complete, paint the land green.
  9. After finishing the Earth craft, leave it to dry completely.

Notes

Doubled up masking tape can also help hold the continent securely in place for smaller hands. Or, leave the template behind and draw the shapes freehand.
