This Dr. Seuss-themed Oh the Places You’ll Go Hot Air Balloon Craft is wonderfully charming. Every balloon features a child’s photo soaring in the basket and heading off on a special adventure! We’ve also added a Free Printable Hot Air Balloon Template for you!
We’ve enjoyed creating plenty of Dr. Seuss crafts. The best part about Dr. Seuss, though, is that you can enjoy celebrating him and his stories throughout the entire year! This project also makes a lovely keepsake craft!
Before starting our Oh the Places You’ll Go Hot Air Balloon Craft, download the Hot Air Balloon Template. You will also need pictures of the kids trimmed to fit inside the balloon basket, cardstock in brown, white, pink, purple, and yellow, along with yarn, a glue stick, and scissors.
Oh the Places You’ll Go Hot Air Balloon Craft
Supplies needed:
First, print the Hot Air Balloon Template onto white cardstock. Then cut out each piece.
Trace the hot air balloon outline onto pink, purple, and yellow cardstock, and cut out the shapes.
Use the white cardstock printable to cut out the cloud shapes as they are. Next, cut out the rectangle and trace it onto brown paper. Have a child’s photo ready for the basket as well.
Fold the rectangle along the dotted lines.
Next, cut two pieces of yarn. Apply glue inside the basket folds and attach the yarn.
Place the picture at the top of the basket, then glue the basket folds shut.
Attach the basket to a full sheet of blue cardstock by gluing only the folds, allowing the basket to pop forward slightly. Pull the yarn taut and secure the opposite ends with glue.
After that, glue both clouds onto the cardstock.
Fold each balloon piece in half. Attach one side of one balloon piece to the side of the following piece with glue.
Continue this process until the balloon pops open.
Finally, glue the balloon above the basket, hiding and fastening the yarn strands in position.
