To create our Cardboard Roll Cat in the Hat Craft, begin by printing our Free Printable Template onto white cardstock. You’ll also need clean toilet paper size cardboard rolls, acrylic paint in black and white, additional cardstock in black and red, a black sharpie, scissors, and a glue stick.
Cardboard Roll Cat in the Hat Craft
Supplies needed:
- Printable Template
- Cardboard roll
- Acrylic paint – black, white
- Cardstock – white, black, red
- Black sharpie
- Scissors
- Glue stick
Start by painting the cardboard roll.
Paint the whole roll black to begin with. Allow it to dry.
Next, paint the front section of the cardboard roll white, as shown above. Leave it to dry.
Print the template onto white cardstock. White cardstock is important since the hat, ears, and white circle face pieces can be used without any changes. Trace the jagged edge piece onto black cardstock and the bow tie onto red cardstock. Cut out all the pieces.
Also, cut 5 rectangular strips from the red cardstock.
Attach the strips to the hat, running upward.
Be sure to trace around the outer edge of the hat with a black sharpie, too.
Using the black sharpie, draw the eyes, nose, mouth, and whiskers on the white circle.
Attach the white circle to the middle of the jagged black piece.
Place the hat above the face. Next, glue the ears onto the face so their tips extend slightly above the hat brim.
Next, cut a slit into each side of the cardboard roll.
Slide the assembled face and hat piece into the slits.
To finish, use the black sharpie to outline and add details to the bow tie.
Attach the bow tie to the upper part of the cardboard roll.
