The beginning of a fresh year is an ideal moment to set ambitious objectives and let your imagination soar. As the ball descends and ushers in countless new opportunities, it’s also a wonderful occasion for children to make a wish upon a star using these wonderfully simple New Year’s Eve Wishing Wands!

To create these New Year’s Eve Wishing Wands, you’ll need paper in assorted colors, glitter foam sheets, craft sticks, a pencil, scissors, and glue. We’ve also prepared a printable template to make sizing the stars easier.
New Year’s Eve Wishing Wands
Supplies needed:
- Printable Template
- Colored craft papers
- Glitter foam sheet
- Craft sticks
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Glue
Collect all the colored craft paper you have; this project is an excellent way to use up leftover scraps.
Slice or rip the colored paper into tiny pieces. I cut mine into squares measuring about 2 cm x 2 cm, though you can choose any size you prefer.
Take a sheet of paper measuring at least 4 inches x 4 inches. Bring together all the small paper pieces, then begin gluing them onto the larger sheet you selected. Layer the colored paper pieces over one another as you attach them to the bigger paper.
Cover the larger sheet with the paper mosaic, leaving as few spaces as possible. The finished patchwork should be large enough for you to outline the star shape within it.
With a pencil, outline a 5 point star inside the patchwork, or use the printable template. Cut out the star shape.
Draw or trace a second star shape that is slightly larger than the patchwork star. Stick the patchwork star onto the plain star shape. Fasten the star to a craft stick, then cut one more star or star-like shape from the glitter foam sheet and secure it to the middle of the paper star.
