Mothers Day Kangaroo Craft

Our mama and baby Mother’s Day Kangaroo Craft makes the sweetest project to create for mom on her special day. The little kangaroo stays safely tucked beside mama, just as kangaroos do in nature. And just like mothers do as well.

A Free Printable Kangaroo Template is included for every piece of this project. After that, simply trace the shapes and glue them together. As an alternative, you could place a small photo of mom’s own children inside the pouch instead of the baby kangaroo.

Mom and Baby Kangaroo Craft

Before beginning this Mother’s Day kangaroo project, print the kangaroo template. Gather cardstock, markers, glue, and scissors for the craft. You will also require a pencil for tracing the template pieces.

Mother’s Day Kangaroo Craft Supplies Needed

  • Kangaroo Template
  • Cardstock – assorted colors
  • Markers
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Pencil – for tracing the template

Kangaroo Mother’s Day Craft Step by Step Directions

Choose 2 or 3 varying tones of one cardstock color. We chose orange cardstock, although brown or grey can work for the kangaroo craft too. The template provides shapes for the mother kangaroo, baby kangaroo, and a heart.

Place the template designs on the selected cardstock, trace them, and then cut out each piece.

Place the inner ear pieces onto the outer ear pieces, then secure the nose piece to the pointed end of the head section.

Next, attach the ear pieces to the upper portion of the head section with glue.

Position the eye pieces across the upper part of the head. Fill in the eye base pieces with a sharpie or gel pen.

Afterward, fasten the leg pieces to either side of the kangaroo base piece. Spread glue along the rounded edge of the pocket piece, leaving its upper edge unglued.

Position the pocket piece on the kangaroo base near the lower top section, between the legs, and glue it in place.

Draw the papercraft kangaroo’s mouth using a sharpie. Then secure one hand piece to each side of the base.

Trace and cut the head and body pieces, then attach them to finish the baby kangaroo figures. Also cut out the heart.

To finish the project, adhere the heart to the pocket and place the baby kangaroo inside it.
