If you need a fast, enjoyable, and simple fireworks activity for the approaching holidays, this Cardboard Roll Stamped Fireworks Craft is a wonderful choice. It’s ideal for any last-minute celebration or as a quick project to occupy the kids while they wait for the evening’s actual fireworks.
We also sprinkled a little glitter over our fireworks to give them extra shimmer. Naturally, the glitter is optional. For obvious reasons, we don’t use it often—mama already has plenty to tidy up—but these fireworks seemed to need a bit of sparkle.
Stamped Fireworks Painting Craft
For this fireworks project, gather toilet paper-size cardboard rolls, acrylic paint in red and blue, red and blue glitter, heavy white cardstock, and scissors. You’ll also need one paper plate for each paint color.
Supplies for the Toilet Paper Roll Fireworks Craft
- Cardboard tube
- Acrylic paint – red, blue
- Glitter – red, blue
- White cardstock
- Scissors
Step-by-Step Directions for Stamped Fireworks
Start with a cardboard roll that is about the size of a toilet paper tube. Prepare one roll for every paint color.
Around the lower edge of the roll, make evenly spaced cuts extending about halfway up.
Next, carefully fold the cut sections outward until they are nearly flat against the surface. Repeat this process with a second toilet paper roll.
Place the craft paint in a ring on a paper plate. Spread the paint evenly with a brush. Dip the toilet paper roll into the paint.
To coat every strip thoroughly, gently push the end of a paintbrush into the paint. Keep repeating until all the strips have an even layer.
Carefully press the paint-covered toilet paper roll onto the white cardstock. To help the entire design transfer clearly, use the paintbrush handle to press each strip against the paper.
Lift the toilet paper roll carefully from the cardstock and place it to the side.
Follow the same process with the second paint color and the remaining toilet paper roll.
At the end, sprinkle your preferred quantity of glitter over the still-wet paint. Shake away and discard any extra glitter.
Stamp as many fireworks as you like onto the white cardstock, then leave the artwork to dry. Display it!

Instructions
- Begin with a cardboard tube about the size of a toilet paper roll. Use one tube for each paint shade.
- Cut evenly spaced slits around the bottom of the toilet paper roll, extending approximately halfway upward.
- Carefully bend the cut sections outward until they rest almost flat on the work surface.
- Carry out the preceding steps with a second toilet paper roll.
- Arrange the craft paint in a circle on a paper plate.
- Spread the paint across the plate evenly using a paintbrush.
- Place the toilet paper roll into the paint.
- Press the end of a paintbrush gently into the paint so every strip becomes coated. Continue until the coverage is uniform.
- Press the painted toilet paper roll softly onto the white cardstock. For a complete print, push each strip onto the paper with the end of the paintbrush.
- Slowly remove the toilet paper roll from the cardstock and set it aside.
- Use the same directions with the second color of paint and the other toilet paper roll.
- Lastly, scatter the desired amount of glitter over the damp paint. Shake off the excess and throw it away.
- Stamp the preferred number of fireworks onto the white cardstock, then leave them to air-dry.
