How To Make Snow Dough
This playdough comes together without cooking. It’s ideal when you’d like to prepare playdough but don’t have a stovetop or kettle available. The mixture is ready in only 5 minutes (so quick!).
It’s gluten free too!
These are the ingredients you’ll need:
- Cornstarch
- Lotion (conditioner may be used instead, but we discovered that lotion helps the dough last longer)
- Iridescent glitter (optional) – try this eco-friendly glitter
- Use snowflake cookie cutters to create snowflake designs!

How do I store snow dough?
For the dough to remain usable as long as possible, seal it tightly so it won’t dry out. Cover it with plastic wrap, then put it inside an airtight container to preserve its softness. If it becomes slightly dry, mix in a small amount of additional lotion and knead it thoroughly.
How do I keep the dough soft?
Begin by covering the dough with saran wrap, then keep it in an airtight container or Ziploc bag. Air exposure causes dough to dry out, so limiting the amount of air that reaches it during storage will help it last longer!
How do you make the dough soft again?
Should the dough dry out or seem somewhat dry after preparation, knead in a little extra lotion. If it ends up overly sticky, incorporate a small amount of additional cornstarch.
How long does it last?
Compared with our traditional playdough recipe, this dough has a shorter lifespan. Within a week, the lotion may begin drying out. Still, it can be refreshed easily by adding a few more squeezes of lotion and kneading them through. It will become nearly as good as new.

Add a little glitter if desired, and knead it through the dough.
Note: if the mixture remains very sticky and does not come together, incorporate another tablespoon of cornstarch by kneading it in.
After preparing the dough, bring out snowflake cookie cutters and rolling pins for playtime!

To store: place the playdough in plastic wrap, then keep it inside an airtight container to extend its shelf life. If the dough becomes dry, squeeze in a small amount of additional lotion and knead it back into the mixture.
