Ocean Slime Recipe

We included these playful ocean figures in our slime to create a sensory play activity. Kids can imagine the fish swimming while the scuba diver searches for treasure! Check the ingredient and supply list below to see the toy pack we used.

Ingredients for Ocean Slime

• 2 Bottles of Elmer’s Blue Glitter Glue – white glue can also be used (use 12 ounces), along with blue food coloring, to create blue slime.
• Baking Soda– 1 teaspoon
• Water – add 1/2 cup of water for a stretchier slime
• 3 tbsp of Contact Lens Solution – Renu Fresh contains Boric Acid and Sodium Borate. Avoid replacing it with another brand. Before purchasing, read the label to confirm it contains the correct ingredients.
• Optional – we chose this Safari Toob to include fish and under-the-sea animals in our ocean slime activity! We also sprinkled in additional blue iridescent glitter. This is the glitter that we used.

How To Make Ocean Slime

1. Pour both bottles of Elmer’s blue glitter glue into a bowl.

When using white glue, add 12 oz of glue to a bowl, then mix in a few drops of blue food coloring.

2. Add 1 teaspoon of baking soda and stir it in well.

3. Pour in 1/2 cup of water to create a stretchier slime.

Adding less water will result in slime that is less stretchy and sticky. Knead it thoroughly (refer to step 6) to help lessen the stickiness. This helps produce stretchy slime instead of a firm texture.

4. Optional step – mix in more glitter for an extra-sparkly slime.

5. Gradually pour in the contact lens solution

(Reminder: the contact lens solution must contain boric acid or the slime will not come together).

Pour it in little by little while stirring.

Before adding another portion, knead and blend everything thoroughly so you do not use too much solution and make the slime overly firm.

You might not require the entire amount, so proceed gradually.

6. Continue mixing until the slime comes togetherand starts to firm up.

It should begin separating from the sides of the bowl.

Remove it from the bowl and knead it repeatedly. You might be surprised by how much kneading is necessary for the slime to fully develop. At this stage, it will be extremely sticky. Continue kneading and pulling the slime until it becomes less tacky.

Keep kneading if the texture is not yet right. To keep the slime from becoming overly firm, add only a small amount of contact solution, one teaspoon at a time.

Should it remain too sticky, apply a small amount of lotion or baby oil to your hands.

• Stop using the slime immediately if you observe skin irritation. Those with sensitive skin should wear gloves while preparing and handling the slime.
• Because slime is a science experiment, it should be prepared and used in moderation. Do not let children make slime independently, and avoid playing with it for long periods.
