Gold Slime Recipe
This golden slime is an excellent way to celebrate the new year! Prepare a batch for children to enjoy on New Year’s Eve. It’s also a wonderful birthday craft or an entertaining activity for a relaxed afternoon.
If you would rather create glitter slime from the beginning, clear glue can be colored yellow or gold. However, we prefer Elmer’s yellow glitter glue because it eliminates the need for food coloring. You may also purchase gold Elmer’s glitter glue, although we prefer the appearance created by the yellow glitter glue.
After trying numerous methods for preparing glitter slime, this technique for creating sparkling gold slime remains our favorite.

What is Slime?
Slime belongs to a group of materials called polymers. Jell-O, chewing gum, and rubber bands are additional examples of polymers. White glue is another polymer. Polymers consist of lengthy chains of polyvinyl acetate molecules. Because these chains move past one another easily, the glue remains simple to pour.
The Science Behind Slime
Adding contact lens solution to the glue changes its behavior and creates a thick, stretchy slime that can be molded and pulled. The slime develops when the glue molecules connect with the borate ions. This connection prevents the larger molecules from sliding freely over each other as they did in the glue. The result is the slime mixture!
Will this Slime Recipe Work?
Each of our slime recipes is straightforward to prepare and should work when the directions are followed carefully. Avoid replacing the recommended brands, or your slime might not develop properly. The type of contact lens solution we use is very important – it is the ingredient that changes glue into slime. We consistently suggest Elmer’s glue because it is dependable and produces excellent slime. If Elmer’s glue is unavailable in your country, you may use another high-quality PVA glue instead.
Safety tips: Only adults should prepare the slime and work with the chemicals. Never replace ingredients in our slime recipes. Anyone with sensitive skin should wear gloves when handling the slime. Wash your hands before and after playing with it. Stop using the slime right away if skin irritation appears. Ingredients Needed to Make Gold Slime
- Gold Glitter – regular-sized glitter works best because fine glitter does not stand out as clearly in the slime.
- 1.5 tablespoons of Contact lens solution.**Important:the contact lens solution you choose must include boric acid and sodium borate. Our preferred option is this brand, which we use for all our slime recipes. Check our complete contact solution slime recipe for the brands we suggest. Do not replace it with another brand.
Biodegradable Gold Glitter

You can purchase this ultra fine biodegradable gold glitter.
Another option is regular biodegradable gold glitter.
For this recipe, I advise against chunky gold glitter. We tried a chunky variety, but its larger pieces came out of the slime too easily. Ultra fine gold glitter is less visible in the slime, so regular glitter is the better choice.
Note that biodegradable glitter begins to decompose after several weeks if it comes into contact with liquid.
Making Gold Slime
1. Begin by choosing a bowl for combining the slime ingredients.
2. Squeeze one 6 oz bottle of Elmer’s yellow glitter glue into the bowl.
To use clear glue instead, combine it with gold food coloring or gold acrylic paint.
3. Sprinkle 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda into the bowl, then stir well.
Next, pour in 1/4 cup of water and stir.
4. Add the glitter to the mixture.
Begin with a small amount of glitter, adding extra as necessary.
5. Gradually pour in the contact lens solution until the mixture begins separating from the bowl.
Start by adding one tablespoon, then stir the mixture.
When the slime begins pulling away from the bowl, remove it and knead it by hand. At this stage, it will remain quite sticky, which is completely normal. Continue kneading for 5 minutes. As you knead it longer, the stickiness should decrease. Because this recipe includes more water than our standard version to accommodate the glitter, it may feel stickier than you expect. Keep kneading until it reaches a smooth, workable consistency.
Reminder: make sure your contact lens solution contains boric acid and sodium borate, or the slime will not come together.
If the slime remains too sticky after 5 minutes of kneading, first try applying a little baby oil or lotion to your hands. This helps prevent you from over-activating the slime.
After using all the suggestions above, if the slime is still overly sticky, add another 1/2 tablespoon of contact lens solution. Introduce it gradually, one additional teaspoon at a time, kneading between additions until the texture suits you.
Your slime is now ready for fun! Children will enjoy stretching this golden slime on New Year’s Eve!
Storing Your Slime
Keep the slime inside an airtight container or sealed bag, where it should remain usable for at least one week.
