Enjoy Farmyard Animal Fun with Simple Horse Crafts

Horse Crafts for Kids to Print
Let’s begin with this assortment of printable Horse Crafts for Kids!

You already know that we are big fans of paper puppets! They are especially enjoyable when they are as unusual and playful as this Paper Horse Puppet Printable – a wonderful movable paper doll to create! Whether you have come for farmyard activities or to celebrate the Year of the Horse, this paper horse puppet is exactly what you need!

Once again, we have a 3d Animal Coloring Page for you – and this time it is a 3d Horse Coloring Page offering two background choices.. one shows the horse on a farm, while the other features a Lunar New Year design! The Farm Horse belongs to a collection of 7 3d Farm Animal Coloring Pages.

You might also enjoy trying this Mix & Match Doodle Horse Art Project! It is incredibly entertaining and works beautifully in either 3d or 2d. I have included the Dragon version as well – so you can see that this activity is available separately JUST for the Year of the Horse or as a collection of 12 Zodiac Animals!

Paper Clothespin Horse Craft for Preschoolers – Snip out a basic horse shape and allow your preschooler to enjoy decorating it with colors and facial details. We especially love using yarn for the mane and tail! So adorable!

Create an adorable handprint horse craft for preschool children. We really enjoy pairing craft sticks with a handprint shape to produce this charming keepsake horse project!

Create some adorable, simple Horse Headbands! You can print them in full color for farmyard games (there are also donkey headbands for nativity outfits) or print them onto card – either white card for children to decorate themselves or bright card to reduce “time”. For example, print the horse on red card and the band on yellow card to create a wonderful Year of the Horse craft for Chinese New Year 2026 – the year of the FIRE Horse, featuring the lucky colors red and yellow!

Here is another enjoyable Paper Hobby Horse Craft that we once made as a party activity (with free hourse outlines) – these would be fantastic for horse fans or Year of the Horse festivities. Best of all, you only need paper (or lightweight card!). Such a cheerful project!

If you are visiting for Year of the Horse festivities – I have some wonderfully easy greeting card drawing prompts – and the Year of the Horse design is free!

You could also try these fabulous Horse Paper Lanterns – FREE for Red Ted Art readers, with a discount code available exclusively on Gumroad!
Ideas for Paper Horse Crafts
Along with the printable horse activity projects, I have several more lovely PAPER Horse Crafts! These do not include printables, but hopefully you will find the step-by-step directions straightforward enough to follow while making your very own horses!

As you know, we absolutely LOVE creating greeting cards. Here is another wonderful two-in-one horse-themed card project. Discover how to cut out basic horse shapes and then transform them into either a “regular” horse card for a birthday or farmyard party invitation, or pair them with simple Chinese New Year lanterns to celebrate the Year of the Horse! So easy! We love that the horses’ faces aren’t firmly attached, creating a lovely 3D effect!

We also created an incredibly cute little Paper Plate Horse craft that preschoolers will enjoy trying. As you can see from my finished project photos, these make excellent horse ideas for both farmyard play and the Year of the Horse. By the way, I think I was having a bit of a “moment” with the horse’s tail – the one we made looks somewhat like a cow’s tail. You might prefer to swap it for one lovely black “lock”. 🙂 Although, I don’t think it truly matters!
General Horse DIY Projects

Can you believe I made this sock horse puppet with the kids 12 years ago – back in 2014, for the previous Year of the Horse? Amazing! I can hardly believe I have been making crafts for all of you for such a long time. Anyway, we had great fun creating this sock horse puppet – concentrate on the horse’s ears and mane, and you really can’t go wrong! You have to love hot glue guns, as they make this a wonderfully simple “no sew horse sock puppet”!

You can also make a Hobby Horse with socks – honestly, this stick horse is QUITE similar to the hand puppet. The primary difference is that it is filled with recycled materials and has a “stick” inserted into it for lots of playful fun! Once again, this is a blast from the past and probably one of the earliest projects here on Red Ted Art, dating from 2010 – wow-wee!

This charming Nature Horse Craft was actually made during a small crafting session where we were creating conker spiders, so it is simply an extra cute photograph. I especially adore the acorn muzzle; it always brings a smile to my face!
Unicorn Projects That Can Easily Become Horse Crafts
We also have plenty of unicorn crafts here on Red Ted Art! Not every unicorn project is “perfect” for adapting into a horse craft, but several of them are. So, I will share the most suitable unicorn horse projects here!

This toilet roll unicorn ABSOLUTELY works as a toilet roll horse craft as well! If you are creating it for the Year of the Horse, I think yellow and red shades would look fantastic. Naturally, you can also paint your horse in classic horse colors! Adorable!

Likewise, I hope you agree that the toilet roll horse marionette works beautifully too! Once again, our toilet roll marionettes come from the early days of Red Ted Art. Our first Giraffe Marionette was a craft that truly “sparked” something in me and made me think, “yes, Red Ted Art is something I want to pursue”. Believe it or not, I still have those giraffes – again, from 2010! They are a little scruffy now, though.

Although the toilet roll marionettes seem like an “iconic” feature of the Red Ted Art Blog (and my first book), corner bookmarks became a cornerstone (hehehe, see what I did there) of Red Ted Art on YouTube – reaching 1 million subscribers this year, along with 340 Million views since I began it! Whoop. Naturally, we have a Unicorn corner bookmark, which I have also transformed into a Horse Corner Bookmark (with worksheets!) for you to try!

We have some3d Unicorn Baubles and 3d Unicorn Cards – both were incredibly enjoyable to create and wonderfully simple for you to make as well. Follow the detailed directions or use the convenient printables (and simply leave out the horn!). Ideal for Chinese New Year, don’t you agree?

This project has been refreshed, meaning you now have a lovely Paper Horse Bauble and 3d Horse Pop Up Cards! We have revised the horse templates to offer several printing choices for home and classroom use! Have fun!

You already know that we enjoy crocheting too, and Red Ted Art features a huge collection of Crochet Patterns. This includes a unicorn crochet pattern, which can naturally be adapted into a Horse Crochet Pattern! I especially enjoy seeing photos that readers send of their creations – that way, you can see what the design looks like in “horse colors”!
Bonus: Free My Little Pony Printables
To finish, here are a few bonus files.. they are not exactly general “horse” projects, but they offer plenty of My Little Pony Printable fun. They are free, naturally! Find additional My Little Pony party craft ideas here.
