Making a Fish Handprint Project
1. Create the paper water.
Begin by cutting blue cardstock or construction paper to create a water scene similar to the one below. Cut a wave along the top, then attach it to the white cardstock with glue.
2. Fold the orange paper.
Fold a sheet of orange cardstock or construction paper in half.
3. Outline your child’s handprint.
Trace around your child’s hand, keeping the base of the handprint along the paper’s folded edge.
Cut along the outline. It should open out like this:
4. Attach googly eyes and a mouth.
Secure the handprint onto the blue paper with glue.
Stick on googly eyes, then use a black marker to draw a mouth on the handprint.
5. Create a popsicle stick fishing rod.
Next, put together the fishing rod!
Tie a short piece of string around a popsicle stick. Glue the stick near the top of the card, then attach the lower end of the string inside the handprint card, within the fish’s mouth.
6. Use pom poms as bubbles.
Place a few white pom poms on the card to represent bubbles underwater. Paper, bubble wrap, or white buttons can be used instead.
7. Write your greetings!
Place the poem on the back of the card, write Happy Father’s Day inside, and add Hooked on Daddy across the top.
Another option is to write “Dad, you’re a catch!”
Dad is sure to enjoy getting this card. Remember to put the date and your child’s name on the back.
