Father’s Day Handprint Trophy

Because the trophy base uses black cardstock, we chose a white paint marker for writing messages on it. If a white paint pen is unavailable, white colored pencils or crayons can work just as well.

Another option is to create the base with a different cardstock color and write on it using an ordinary marker.

Creating a Handprint Trophy

1. Create the handprints.

Brush yellow, non-toxic tempera or acrylic paint over your child’s palm.

Help your child press their hand onto a sheet of white cardstock to make a print.

Carefully lift their hand, then add more paint to create further handprints. Afterward, assist them in cleaning their hands with warm, soapy water. Keeping a wipe close by can make it easier to remove the paint before washing their hand.

Allow the handprints to air-dry.

2. Prepare the trophy.

Print the free trophy template and cut it out. The template can be sent to you through the form at the bottom of this post.

This trophy fits nicely with children’s hands aged 5 and under. For a larger trophy, modify the scale option in your printer settings. After printing, place it over your child’s painted handprints to confirm that it fits between both handles.

Transfer the template outline onto yellow cardstock, then cut it out.

Cut out the openings with scissors. Slightly folding the paper and making a tiny slit with the scissors may help. This allows you to insert the scissors into the handle section and trim it away.

3. Fasten the handprint to the trophy.

With scissors, trim out the dried painted handprints while keeping a slim white outline around each one.

Spread glue across the back of the handprint, then attach it to the trophy.

4. Create the trophy base.

Download, print, and trim the trophy base template.

Place the template on black cardstock, trace around it, and cut out 2 pieces. Each trophy card requires 2 trophy bases.

Take one piece and use a white paint marker to add a brief Father’s Day greeting. We used “#1 Dad”, “World’s Best Dad” and “Best Dad Ever.”

Apply a 1/2″ strip of glue down the left edge of the plain base. Place the decorated base on top, attaching it only along the left side to create a card.

Attach the base to the trophy.

Carefully open the card and crease it so it can open and close with ease. Add another Father’s Day greeting inside the card.

Create as many trophies as you wish! Remember to add your child’s name and the date inside the card or on the back of the trophy!

Naturally, you can personalize the wording on the trophy base to match your Dad perfectly! Try messages such as “World’s Best Pasta Sauce Maker”, “#1 Fisherman”, or “BBQ King” to give the card an extra-special touch.
