Wow, I’m thrilled about today’s contribution from Creating Creatives! It has been a little while since we featured a Perler Bead Craft project. Even so, both of my children (10yrs and 12yrs) still love making them and spent the entire Christmas holiday “Perler Beading” (or Hama Beading, as we call it) in our home! Today’s project is an adorable Perler Bead Picture Frame DIY. It’s a delightful way to create a colorful DIY photo frame as a present (perhaps for Mother’s Day or Valentine’s Day?) or simply for fun. I also think these Perler Bead Picture Frames would look wonderful with a metal strip attached to the back so they could be used as refrigerator photo frames! They are so bright and cheerful!
Today’s lovely project is a Perler Bead Picture Frame Heart for Valentines. It makes an ideal Kids Valentine’s Day Craft and gift – and it would be equally wonderful for Mother’s Day!

How to create Perler Bead Picture Frames
Hello Tedsters! I’m delighted to return with another project for 31 Days of Love (Red Ted Art’s LOVE-ly guest post series). This time, we’re showing you how to preserve a memory in a frame using one of our favorite craft supplies, Perler or Hama Beads!

Hama Bead Picture Frames – Materials
- Free Picture Frame Template here ($0 at check out, do not leave a tips – best place for tips is Buy Me a Coffee)
- A Perler / Hama pegboard (we chose a square one)
- Perler / Hama Beads
- Parchment Paper
- An iron
- A picture (this may be a photograph or a piece of artwork)

How to create Perler Bead Picture Frames for Valentine’s Day or Mother’s Day
- Use the FREE Perler Bead Picture Frame Template provided to arrange the design on your board with Perler beads. The heart design becomes the picture frame, while the second design creates the feet that support the frame.
- An adult should assist with the following 2 steps. Turn on and heat your iron.
- As the iron heats, tear off enough parchment paper to cover the whole board.
- Cover your
beaded pattern with the parchment paper. Slowly move the iron in a circular motion over the
paper until the beads have melted enough to join together. Be
careful not to overdo it, or you could melt the board.
- Let the
beads cool for several minutes before removing the parchment paper. Some crafters
also iron the reverse side of the design. I did this only with the feet
to give them extra strength. If your beads begin to curl, place the design
beneath a few heavy books for a couple of minutes while it remains warm to flatten it.
- Print or
decorate your picture. The finished frame holds a 2.5” x 2.5” image, although
your paper should be slightly larger so it can sit properly inside the frame.
Position the picture behind the frame, keep it in place, and slide the legs over
the picture.
- That’s it! Present it to someone special or put it on display in your home!
