Materials Required
Making a Robin Footprint
1. Stamp the footprint.
First, prepare your work area – we prefer putting the white cardstock on the floor before a short chair or step stool. Set out clean cloths, baby wipes, and a large container filled with warm, soapy water.
Brush brown non-toxic tempera paint over the bottom of your child’s foot, then help them press the painted foot onto the white cardstock.
Raise the foot from the sheet and brush on more paint for the next print. Continue as often as desired, cleaning the paint from your child’s foot with the warm water and cloths afterward.
2. Paint the robin’s red belly.
With red paint and a medium brush, create a rounded red belly on the footprint by filling the open arch with a red shape.
3. Paint the yellow features.
Using yellow paint and a small detail brush, add the robin’s beak and two feet.
4. Create the face.
Place the back of a pencil into white paint and press a round eye onto the heel. After the white paint dries, use the back of a thinner paintbrush to add a tiny black pupil.
For rosy cheeks, dip a pencil tip into pink paint and stamp it beside the eye. Let the paint dry completely.
5. Trim out the bird.
Cut around each bird with scissors, keeping a visible white outline.
Spread glue across the robin’s back and attach it to brightly colored paper – we chose a robin’s egg blue shade. Trim around the paper as well, leaving a narrow border around the complete shape.
Your spring robins are finished! Remember to add your child’s name and the date to the back!
