Today’s Paper Bookmark project is an idea that has been developing for weeks, perhaps even months – Harry Potter Bookmarks – inspired by paper-folded chevron bookmarks, we pair the colours of the Hogwarts houses with their emblems for Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, Slytherin and Griffindor! This adds to our Harry Potter Craft Ideas collection, which includes more DIY projects, party treats and movie-night suggestions!

It is another day for paper crafts and another DIY Bookmark Idea (the days of our Toilet Paper Roll Crafts obsession are long gone??? I still can’t bring myself to discard TP Rolls.. teehee), though once again I am getting sidetracked. Now it’s time for some Harry Potter magic!
Did you realise that Harry Potter reached its 25th anniversary in June 2022? Well, the books did.. so technically, I suppose that makes Harry Potter 35 years old. However, I am being overly precise and wandering off-topic again. If you are fond of this charming wizard and want simple Harry Potter crafts for children, try our easy chevron bookmarks today.
Of course, we all adore Harry Potter and enjoy discovering fresh Harry Potter Craft ideas (our DIY Harry Potter Wands are certainly my favourite – all you need are a few chopsticks and a hot glue gun – but today’s bookmarks are probably a close second!). These Harry Potter Bookmarks feature the colours of the Harry Potter Houses – Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Slytherine and Ravenclaw – and are made using a beautiful and EASY Paper Chevron Bookmark DIY (this chevron bookmark is really “nothing more than paper weaving with 4 strands” and looks fantastic).

We chose the Harry Potter house colours and printed several house badges too (the printable is below), although I think the bookmarks look wonderful using ONLY the house colours and leaving off the Harry Potter house badges – ideal if you do not have a printer available.
We also provide a video guide for making a paper chevron bookmark, along with step-by-step photos showing how to create one. You can select whichever format suits you best!
DIY Harry Potter Bookmark – supplies required
- For each bookmark, prepare four paper strips, with 2 in each house colour
- Each strip should be approximately 1cm wide and 25cm long (slice 1cm strips from the edge of an A4 sheet of paper)
- A small amount of glue
- Optional: the Harry Potter House Badges (I designed a variety of house badges for you to print, since I know everyone has their favourites
The Harry Potter house colours we chose –
- For the Slytherine Bookmark – Green and Grey
- For the Hufflepuff Bookmark – Yellow and Black
- For the Gryffindor Bookmark – Marroon and Yellow
- For the Ravenclaw Bookmark – Blue and Grey
As usual, simply use whatever materials you already have. If your colours are not an exact match, it really is not a problem!

How to create a Chevron Bookmark from Paper

Step by Step Harry Potter Bookmark Weaving Guide
While you wait, have a look at these step-by-step directions for creating a paper chevron bookmark!
Time needed:30 minutes
- Cut the Paper Strips in Harry Potter House Colours
First, cut four paper strips measuring 1cm in width. Ours are around 25cm long – we trimmed them from the side of an A4 sheet of paper. Make the cuts as NEATLY as possible. We used a cutting board, which made the process fast and simple.

- Fasten the first strips for weaving the bookmark
Take your glue stick (or double-sided adhesive tape) and attach two strips of the same colour to form precise right angles. We began with yellow because it is hufflepuff’s primary house colour!

- Attach the second Harry Potter House Colour
Next, use your contrasting shade, which for us is black, and secure it with a little glue. It should line up exactly with one of the yellow strips.

- Attach your 4th strip for weaving
Do the same with the second contrasting strip, positioning it perpendicular to the first black strip as you secure it.

- Begin Weaving
You are now ready to begin folding. You can fold this simply (and quickly….) BUT I prefer to apply a small amount of glue to each fold, helping to hold the bookmark together and make it a little sturdier.

-
Do the same on the opposite side and continue onward. Try to make each fold as tidy as you can.

- Finishing the Chevron Bookmark
Once you reach the end of the bookmark, use a little extra glue to fasten the final paper sections, then cut away the edges.

Now, simply cut out your Harry Potter House Badges (add $0 at checkout) as carefully as possible, then glue them in place. Ta-da… your personal Harry Potter bookmarks are complete. I think they look fantastic and would be a wonderful present for the Harry Potter witches and wizards in your life!
