How to Create St. Patrick’s Day Handprint Art
1. Prepare your workspace.
- Select the printable patterns you want to use, then print them on white paper or cardstock. Cardstock has a heavier weight and offers greater durability.
- Gather your paint shades and brushes – we chose 2 shades of green, plus red, orange, yellow, blue and purple.
- Place warm, soapy water in a large dish and set it beside your work area with clean rags, towels, baby wipes, and paper towels to simplify the cleanup process.
2. Create the handprints.
Brush non-toxic tempera paint across your child’s palm, then assist them as they press it onto the paper. Every design includes handprints and fingerprints.
The easiest patterns require only one handprint, including the shamrock, clover wreath, horseshoe, and “lucky” designs.
2. Create the leprechaun beard.
With the leprechaun printable, begin by pressing one orange handprint onto his chin before washing your child’s hand. Add orange paint to their opposite hand and make another print.
3. Create the rainbow handprint.
For this project, coat each finger in a separate rainbow shade, as shown below.
Lead their hand to the paper and help them press it down to create a print, trying to position it beside the pot of gold.
4. Create the fingerprint shamrocks.
Put green, non-toxic tempera paint on your child’s index finger. Help them make fingerprint groups of 3 to create shamrocks. We preferred adding more paint after every 2-3 fingerprints, though you can modify this whenever necessary!
A green ink pad works well too.
With a small paintbrush, add short stems beneath each cluster of leaves.
After every painted section has dried, the handprint artwork is finished! Put it in a frame or display it on the refrigerator for cheerful St Patrick’s Day décor.
