Crayon Resist Watercolor Skeleton Craft

Crayon resist projects are among our favorite methods for making one-of-a-kind artwork. The pale crayon marks work especially well for the bones in our Crayon Resist Watercolor Skeleton Craft for Halloween! This project is wonderfully easy, making it an excellent children’s art activity to enjoy right up until trick-or-treat day.

Crayon Resist Watercolor Skeleton Craft

The basic idea behind this activity is to sketch your picture using a white crayon and then brush watercolor over it. It’s imaginative and wonderfully different every single time.

For younger children who might have trouble following the lines, we’ve previously chosen a peach crayon or pale silver one so the drawing is visible. The finished result remains the same. It reduces the surprise element, but it may also lessen some of the frustration.

To create our incredibly easy crayon resist skeletons, you only need thick white cardstock, a white crayon, and watercolor paints.

Watercolor Crayon Resist Skeleton Craft Supplies Needed

  • Thick white cardstock
  • White crayon
  • Watercolor paints

Crayon Resist Skeleton Craft Step by Step Directions

First, gather your watercolors, a cup of water, and a paintbrush. Just the usual watercolor supplies. You’ll also need a white crayon and one sheet of thick white cardstock. The sturdier cardstock handles watercolor paints more effectively.

Next, sketch your skeleton. If you prefer to see the marks, choose a peach crayon or another very pale shade.

Once the skeleton has been outlined, start brushing watercolor paint across the crayon lines.

Experiment with various Halloween color pairings and enjoy the process!

Keep applying watercolor until the entire sheet is covered.

Afterward, place the watercolor artwork somewhere flat and allow the paint to dry completely. While the first skeleton dries, you can create additional ones using more playful color combinations!
