After one stung me on the bee-hind when I was little, bees and I have never exactly been friends. Still, I understand how important they are to nature, so I want my children to recognize everything bees do, even though I have my own reservations. We can begin with a short lesson while creating adorable bee projects, such as this Cardboard Roll Yarn Wrapped Bee Craft, which is honestly one of the sweetest!

Yarn Wrapped Cardboard Roll Bee Craft
Before starting this yarn wrapped bee project, print our bee template.
Gather toilet paper size cardboard rolls, yellow acrylic paint, yellow cardstock, black yarn, small googly eyes, a black sharpie, black pipe cleaners, scissors, tape, and a glue stick as well. It may sound like quite a collection of supplies, but assembling everything is wonderfully simple!

Cardboard Roll Bee Craft Step by Step Directions
Start by coating a toilet paper size cardboard roll with yellow paint.
Allow the paint to dry thoroughly.
As the paint dries, print the bee template and trim out each piece. Leave the wings on white printer paper. Trace the circle onto yellow cardstock, then cut it out.
Stick the small googly eyes onto the yellow circle. Then use the black sharpie to draw a cheerful little mouth.
After that, cut one black pipe cleaner in half. Shape it into a V, then twist the ends into curls using your fingers.
Secure the pipe cleaner to the upper back of the yellow circle with tape to create the antennae.
Once the paint on the cardboard roll has dried, make two notches at one end, positioned on opposite sides. Cut one more notch at the opposite end of the roll.
Place the starting end of the black yarn into one notch.
Wind the yarn around the cardboard roll several times. To finish, tuck the loose end into another notch.
Fit the yellow circle into the two upper notches of the cardboard roll.
Finally, attach the wings to the back of the cardboard roll with glue. For extra decoration, use the black sharpie to add accents to the wings. Keep in mind that the black sharpie can seep through printer paper, so protect your table beneath the paper before adding details.

Instructions
- Start by painting a toilet paper size cardboard roll yellow.
- Allow the paint to dry thoroughly.
- While the paint dries, print the bee template and cut out the pieces.
- Leave the wings on white printer paper.
- Trace the circle onto yellow cardstock, then cut it out.
- Attach the small googly eyes to the yellow circle.
- Use the black sharpie to add a cheerful little mouth.
- Cut a black pipe cleaner in half, shape it into a V, and curl the ends with your fingers.
- Use tape to fasten the pipe cleaner to the upper back of the yellow circle as antennae.
- After the cardboard roll paint dries, cut two notches at one end on opposite sides. Then make one notch at the other end of the roll.
- Tuck the beginning of the black yarn into one of the notches.
- Wrap the yarn around the cardboard roll several times, then place its end into another notch.
- Place the yellow circle into the two upper notches on the cardboard roll.
- Finish by gluing the wings onto the back of the cardboard roll. Add extra wing details with the black sharpie if desired.
Notes
Keep in mind that the black sharpie may seep through printer paper, so protect your table beneath the paper while decorating the wings.
