You can tell spring has arrived when birds begin to sing and flowers start to open. We’re combining both of those things with an adorable handprint in our delightful Handprint Bird Craft! Featuring a handprint bird resting on a basic tree branch, this paper project is wonderfully easy and enjoyable for kids.
We’re huge enthusiasts of handprint projects around here, as you might notice if you look around a bit. How could anyone resist them? They’re simply precious! We’re also loving these handprint birds. So gather some cardstock, trace a small hand, and enjoy creating this easy craft.
Paper Handprint Bird Craft
For our handprint birds, gather cardstock in a variety of colors, small googly eyes, markers in black, brown, and blue or white, scissors, and a glue stick.
Handprint Birds Craft Supplies Needed
- Cardstock – blue, green, brown, yellow, or colors of your choosing
- Markers – black, brown, blue or white
- Small googly eyes
- Scissors
- Glue stick
Easy Bird Handprint Craft Step by Step Directions
Start with a piece of blue cardstock to use as the background. Lay it horizontally.
Trim a strip from the brown cardstock to create the tree branch.
Attach the brown strip so it extends from the side of the blue cardstock background.
Next, trace a small hand onto the cardstock color you selected, then cut it out.
Place the handprint sideways, with the wrist in front and the fingers behind, slightly above the branch, and glue it in position.
After that, cut a little triangle from yellow cardstock. Adhere the triangle to the bird’s front, then attach a googly eye.
Use a black marker to sketch on simple legs.
Next, cut basic leaf shapes from green cardstock and attach them along the branch.
To finish, decorate with markers. We used a blue marker for cloud shapes in the background, though a white marker works just as well.
We also used a brown marker to draw a few bark marks across the branch.
What an easy way to create an adorable spring bird on a branch craft—with a handprint!
