Clothespin Butterfly Craft

Our Clothespin Butterfly Craft is a lovely springtime butterfly project that requires little more than a wooden clothespin and two brightly colored pipe cleaners. Despite being so easy to make, it offers countless ways to personalize and design it.

Choose pink and purple, purple and orange, or any combination you prefer. Your butterflies can be bright, lively, and completely one-of-a-kind—just use whichever colorful pipe cleaners you have on hand. Fortunately, pipe cleaners come in plenty of vivid, sparkling shades.

Pipe Cleaner Clothespin Butterfly Craft

For this butterfly project, you’ll need wooden clothespins, pipe cleaners in various colors, assorted acrylic paints, a black pen, and scissors.

Spring Butterfly Clothespin Craft Supplies Needed

• Wooden clothespin
• Pipe cleaners – assorted shades
• Acrylic paint – assorted shades
• Black marker
• Scissors

Butterfly Clothespin Craft Step by Step Directions

Start by painting the clothespins in any colors you choose.

Allow the paint to dry thoroughly.

As the paint dries, begin making the wings. Select 2 different colored pipe cleaners, shape each one into a circle, and twist the ends together to hold them in place.

Next, pinch each circle together and twist it into the shape of an 8.

Twist the two 8-shaped pieces together at their centers.

Afterward, secure the pipe cleaners inside a clothespin.

For the antennae, choose another pipe cleaner and cut it in half. Bend it at the center to create a V shape.

Use your fingers to curl the tips into antennae.

Attach the antennae to the top of the clothespin. Hot glue may be used for extra stability, although we chose not to glue ours.

To finish, draw the tiniest, simplest pair of black dots for eyes and add a mouth with the black pen.

For additional decoration, we added a few lines across the body.
