We adore Finger Knitting, and we are constantly searching for fresh finger knitting projects to create with all our “sausages”.. my children aren’t very interested in stitching their finger knitting together (it can be rather tricky for them)… so easy finger knitting crafts are perfect. Today, we’ll teach you how to Finger Knit a Pumpkin – yes, it’s a wonderfully simple little Jack O-Lantern Ornament, but hopefully it will charm you just as much as it has charmed us. Finger Knitting Patterns – Jack O’Lantern – Materials
- Orange wool – we actually mix yellow and orange wool since we had both available. Our wool was rather fine, so we needed two strands. If you have THICK wool, one strand will be sufficient.
- A small amount of green wool for the top of your Finger Knitted Jack O’Lantern. If green wool isn’t available, you could perhaps use felt?
- Black felt for the Pumpkin’s features. Black card can also be used for the Jack O’Lantern face if you don’t have felt!
- Scissors, a bit of glue and YOUR FINGERS!

How to Finger Knit a Pumpkin – Step by Step Instructions
Okay! We’re assuming that you already know how to finger knit. If you don’t, the video in this finger knitting post is especially helpful. The video above DOES demonstrate it, although it moves a little faster..
Begin by casting on with your orange or orange/ yellow wool. As noted, we used TWO strands because our wool was quite thin and we wanted a fuller finger knitting effect. We felt that the yellow and orange combination looked lovely.
Finger knit for roughly 10cm – it doesn’t need to be exact… I didn’t measure ours. What I did check was that, when the beginning and end were brought together, they formed a neat, compact circle.
CAST OFF.
Next, knot the beginning and end of your Finger Knitting together – creating the Finger Knitted Pumpkin circle.
Take a small piece of green yarn, wind it around your fingers and knot it in the centre (creating a group of loops).
Attach these green loops to the top of your orange finger knitting project. Alternatively, you can use felt shaped like a pumpkin leaf and stem.
Now for the final step – cut Jack O’Lantern faces from your black felt and glue them into place.
Your little Finger Knitted Jack O’Lanterns are complete!! Hooray.
