Personally, I absolutely LOVE origami video tutorials. They appear to make teaching origami considerably simpler. However, I understand that some of you would rather have thorough, step-by-step instructions too. Choose whichever version suits you best!

Today, we are presenting this charming Origami Whale. It is quick, easy, and incredibly enjoyable!! I also think it might make a mischievous “Bailey” from Finding Dory craft, don’t you agree?! Have fun creating it.
To create this Origami Whale, you will need:
- 1 square sheet of paper*
- scissors (optional)
- markers & a selection of colored paper for decoration (optional)
- glue stick (optional)
* you can use a square sheet of origami paper for this activity or simply choose brightly colored printer paper. Construction paper may work for this origami craft as well.. although thinner paper is preferable!

How to create an Origami Whale:
It truly is EASY!! Children will adore this charming little paper craft! Directions for the origami whale are available as both a video and a step-by-step photo guide. The video begins playing automatically, or you may scroll to the end of the post to watch the YouTube version.
Aren’t they adorable?? I especially LOVE the baby whales. They are incredibly sweet! I hope you give it a try and HAVE FUN!
Written step-by-step directions for creating a Paper Whale.

Gather your square sheets of paper. You can choose various colors for the whales, though I think greys, blues, and purples are wonderful whale shades! Now we can begin our easy directions for making this delightful paper whale!
Create a diagonal fold
Start with a square piece of paper and fold it corner to corner. Unfold it, then fold it along the other diagonal – both diagonal creases should be easy to see and firmly pressed.
Shape it like a kite
Unfold the square again. Move the left edge inward toward the diagonal centerline. Repeat on the right by folding the right edge toward the centerline – you should now see a kite or diamond shape.
Shape the whale’s body
Fold the top point down until it meets the center crease. Then fold the entire shape in half.
The whale’s tail
Raise the long, slender point and bend it upward at a 90-degree angle. Crease it firmly for a sharp fold.
Unfold the origami model and bend it in the opposite direction.
To finish, use scissors to create a small slit (or gently tear it) close to the top of the tail, then fold that section downward.
Add the facial features, and your whale is finished!
These little whales are lovely summer decorations or enjoyable paper toys for young children.
