What is Fluffy Slime?
Fluffy slime is essentially ordinary slime combined with shaving cream. The quantity of shaving cream you include affects the slime’s texture and consistency. Adding more will make it “fluffier.” If you prefer only a slightly fluffy result, this recipe explains exactly how much shaving cream to add. The enjoyable thing about creating slime is testing different quantities to observe how the mixture develops.
To ensure your slime comes out properly, make sure you follow the directions closely. Choosing the correct contact lens solution and glue is extremely important! Replacing these ingredients with different brands could cause the slime to fail. We likewise advise against exchanging the recommended brands.

If you have never made slime, we suggest beginning with this simple version. It is more straightforward than fluffy slime and helps you understand how much kneading and handling is needed for the slime to come together.
Although fluffy slime is entertaining for children, we suggest adult supervision and recommend that adults prepare the slime. Before starting, review the additional safety advice at the end of this post.
After preparing your fluffy slime, enjoy pulling and compressing it. Pressing fluffy slime leaves marks in its surface, something regular slime does not do as readily. It is somewhat more difficult to stretch because it has a soft, airy consistency.
How Long Does Slime Last?
The fluffy texture remains for only one day. Therefore, if you intend to save it for later, remember that the shaving cream settles, making it less fluffy the following day. You can still use it after that first day, but its texture will become more similar to standard slime. Keep it in an airtight container, and it should remain usable for at least 1 week.

Fluffy Slime Ingredients
For a bigger quantity, triple the recipe below. Alternatively, prepare 3 batches in 3 separate colors, as we did, and create your own Unicorn Fluffy Slime!
Per batch:
- 2/3 cup of Elmer’s White Glue – we prefer purchasing this gallon size container of white glue because it costs much less and can be used for additional batches.
Note: this recipe was prepared with Elmer’s white glue. Avoid replacing it with another glue because its ingredients may differ, causing the recipe to fail
- 1/2 teaspoonBaking Soda
- 2-3 cups Shaving Cream – remember: shaving gel should not be used.
- 1.5 TablespoonsContact Lens Solution –*Important: the contact lens solution you choose must list boric acid and sodium borate among its ingredients. These substances react with the glue and create the slime. We advise using only Renu fresh or Equate brand. Do not replace them with other brands.

- Liquid Food Coloring – this set includes many bright pink, purple, and blue shades.
How to Make Fluffy Slime
1. Pour your white glue into a bowl.
2. Pour in the water and baking soda, then stir everything together.
3. Mix in the shaving cream.
4. Stir in the food coloring until the shade looks right to you.
5. Gradually pour in the contact solution.
**Important: the contact lens solution you use must list boric acid and sodium borate among its ingredients. These substances react with the glue and create the slime. If slime does not form, the contact lens solution usually lacks one or both of these ingredients. Read the label and refer to the suggested brands in our ingredient list above.
We recommend adding 1 tablespoon first, kneading for 5 minutes, and then working in the remaining 1/2 tablespoon after kneading for a while. The mixture will feel quite sticky as you knead it—and that is completely normal!
The initial tablespoon makes it possible to begin kneading. After you work in the final 1/2 tablespoon, the stickiness should lessen, so it will cling less to your hands.
Note- fluffy slime can be MESSY to prepare. While kneading, it is perfectly normal for the slime to adhere to your hands.
If the mixture remains overly sticky, rub a little baby oil or lotion onto your hands. You may also add extra contact solution, but only a small amount at a time. Using too much contact solution can make the slime stiff and less stretchy during play.
Follow the recipe above again for every color you want to create. Note: When combined, the colors will eventually blend into a single shade, much like play dough. You may leave them separate or combine them to see the result! Making all 3 colors could produce gray, so to create purple, combine only the pink and purple.
Once that is finished, it is ready for you to play with!
Stored in an airtight container, the slime will last for at least one week. As noted earlier, it will lose its fluffy texture after the first day, though it remains enjoyable to play with!

If it still feels too sticky, apply a little baby oil or lotion to your hands. You can also add more contact lens solution, using only a small amount at a time. Add an extra teaspoon each time until the slime stops sticking. Too much solution may make the slime too firm and reduce its stretchiness.
Slime Safety & Precautions
Note: Since making slime is a science experiment, be sure to follow proper safety measures while preparing it.
- An adult should prepare the slime and handle all products.
- Read and follow the instructions on every product label.
- Wash your hands before and after handling the slime.
- Stop using it immediately if you experience skin irritation. Those with sensitive skin should wear gloves while making or playing with the slime.
