Honestly… I could talk forever about how much I enjoy creating with TP Rolls. There are Toilet Roll Crafts everywhere… and naturally, there are Toilet Paper Roll BATS too! Of course, these have been made before, just like Toilet Roll Owls and TP Roll People… but what I adore about OUR TP Roll bats is their endless POSSIBILITIES.
Oooh, there is so much fun to be had. Create one or make a whole bunch. Hang them as “Bat Bunting” this Halloween. Or seal them as Bat Goodie bags… or… my ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE option is…. transform your TP Roll Bat into mini Pinatas so you can REALLY enjoy a Trick or Treat experience (we do adore a good DIY TreatBox Craft!!). Pull the string – will you get a TREAT filled with colourful lollies… or a TRICK featuring slimey worms (also known as worm sweets, naturally).

Toilet Roll Bats – Materials
- one Toilet Paper Roll,
- some black card,
- googly eyes,
- pva glue (white glue),
- a silver or gold pen for the mouth,
- tissue paper (to “fill the bottom”),
- Halloween treats
How to create your Toilet Paper Roll Bats
1) Fold the top of your TP Roll downward to form a bat shape – it is the same shape used for a TP Roll Owl on auto play or cat.
2) Paint it black. I prefer acrylic paints because they provide a nicer finish and my kids are now accustomed to using them.
3) While they dry, take a small bowl and use it as a guide. Cut one circle from your black card, then divide the circle in half. Next, cut a few “waves” and your wings will be ready to attach.
4) Attach the wings and googly eyes with glue. Next, draw on the mouth using the silver pen. If your pen does not show up on black, you can leave it empty, paint it with white paint or attach a basic paper mouth!
Finished….
Now comes the exciting part. Will you:
* Turn them into trick or treat goodie bags for a party – then fill them with sweets and add a little tissue paper to hold everything securely.
* Use them as bunting – make plenty and hang them together (you can staple the wings onto some string)
* Create (my favourite) Halloween Pinatas? In essence – they are made like the goodie bags, but you attach some string at the bottom to pull on the bats and discover whether you receive a Trick or a Treat! Fill them with assorted treats or surprise someone with an “empty” bat…. or, to prevent disappointment, add items such as “joke sweets” (eye ball chocolates, gummi worms) or perhaps some spider sequins?
