Creating Halloween keepsakes is incredibly simple! They’re adorable additions to baby books and children’s memory boxes, thoughtful gifts for relatives, or decorations displayed in a frame.

How to Create these Halloween Handprint Printables

1. Prepare your painting area.

• Select your Halloween designs and print them on white paper or cardstock.
• Collect your paint shades – we used orange, green, black, and purple.
• Place warm, soapy water in a large bowl or dish and set it near your workspace. You’ll also need clean rags, towels, baby wipes, and paper towels. These supplies make tidying up much simpler, particularly when creating the footprint art.
• When making the footprint art pages, bring a short stool or child-sized chair to the painting space.

2. Paint the handprint patterns.

Spread non-toxic tempera paint across your child’s palm.

Help your child press their hand onto the paper, positioning it to match the design.

Gently assist them in lifting their hand from the page. When the design calls for only one handprint, help your child rinse away the paint using warm, soapy water.

For designs requiring 2 handprints, apply another layer of paint to their hand and press it onto the paper again. After stamping, place the papers aside so they can dry.

3. Paint the footprint patterns.

Ensure your workspace is prepared beforehand – the simplest method is to have your child sit on a short stool and place the blank design on the floor, making the bottom of their foot easy to paint. Brush non-toxic tempera paint onto the sole of their foot, then help them press it onto the page.

The bat requires only one footprint, while the “trick or treat” design calls for both feet. Afterward, help your child clean their feet in the dish of warm, soapy water. Leave the papers aside to dry.

4. Add the facial details.

After the painted handprints and footprints have dried, you’re ready to add the finishing facial details!

For the witch, attach 2 googly eyes with glue, then draw a nose, mouth, and hair using a black marker. Use pink paint to add rosy cheeks. Dip the back of a paintbrush or pencil into the paint and gently dab it onto the face to create the pink cheeks.

For the bat, draw eyes and a mouth with the black marker. A white paint marker works wonderfully for adding tiny fangs! White paint can also be used to paint them on.

To create the bat’s pointed ears, paint them above your child’s footprint with a brush and matching purple paint.

For the spider, glue on 2 googly eyes and use a white paint marker to create a little mouth with fangs. With pink paint and the tip of a paintbrush or pencil, dab on the rosy pink cheeks.

Your Halloween handprint and footprint artwork is finished! Remember to put your child’s name and the date on the back!
