Supplies Needed
Just a handful of materials are required for these painted Halloween handprints:
- Non-Toxic Tempera Paint – available in assorted colors. We prefer tempera paint over washable paint because it produces brighter results.
- White cardstock – use white cardstock, as it is more durable than ordinary paper or construction paper
- Black sharpie or marker- outline the handprint with a black sharpie so it stands out clearly

Directions to Make Halloween Handprint Art
Pumpkin Handprint
Brush green paint onto the fingers and orange paint across the palm. Press the hand onto white cardstock, leaving out the thumb. After it dries, paint or sketch the pumpkin’s face. Finish by outlining the handprint with a black marker or sharpie.
Vampire Handprint
Cover the fingers with black paint and the palm with light beige paint. Press onto white cardstock while leaving out the thumb. When dry, paint or sketch the vampire’s face. Add a red bow, then use a painted fingerprint to create the ears. Outline the completed handprint with a black marker or sharpie.
Ghost Handprint
Coat the hand in white paint and press it onto cardstock (black cardstock would make the handprint stand out wonderfully!). After drying, paint or draw the ghost’s face. Outline the finished handprint using a black marker or sharpie.
Frankenstein Handprint
Paint the fingers black and the palm green. Press the hand onto white cardstock, excluding the thumb. Once dry, paint or draw Frankenstein’s face. Place two bolts along the sides of Frankenstein’s head. Create the ears with painted fingerprints, then outline the finished handprint with a black marker or sharpie.
Candy Corn Handprint
Paint the upper section of the hand white, the center orange, and the lower section yellow. Press it onto white cardstock without using the thumb. Outline the completed handprint with a black marker or sharpie.
Witch Handprint
Paint the fingers black and the palm green. Press onto white cardstock, keeping the thumb off the paper. After it dries, paint or draw the witch’s face. For a friendlier witch, add googly eyes and leave out the eyebrows. Paint on the witch’s hat and hair, then outline the handprint with a black marker or sharpie.
Monster Handprint
Create a handprint using purple, red, or orange paint. After it has dried, place white fingerprint marks on it to form the eyes. When the white paint is dry, paint black circles inside the eyes. Add a tiny white dot to each black circle, then draw a smile. Finish by outlining the handprint with a black marker or Sharpie.
Bat Handprint
Cover both hands with black paint, then press them onto white cardstock so they overlap as pictured. After the paint dries, use yellow paint to create two eyes and add white teeth. Outline the completed handprint with a black marker or Sharpie. Outline the eyes as well, then place a black dot in the middle of each one with the marker.
Zombie Handprint
Make the handprint with green paint. Once it is completely dry, use yellow paint for the eyes and pink paint on the cheeks. Apply red paint marks around the handprint and draw a smile. Use a black marker to add stitch details. Outline the finished handprint with a black marker or Sharpie. Finally, outline the eyes and place a black dot in the center of each with the marker.
