Sharing stories aloud has long been a beloved family tradition for us. It becomes even more enjoyable when we add a project, such as this wonderfully playful Cardboard Roll Stamped Paper Plate Truffalo Trees Craft, inspired by one of our treasured books.
We adore the pattern created when a cardboard roll is pressed onto a paper plate to form these Truffalo Trees. The effect brings to mind their fluffy crowns in The Lorax. Plus, who could turn down an entertaining painting project?
Stamped Paper Plate Truffalo Trees Craft
To create these cheerful Truffalo Trees, gather paper plates, orange and pink acrylic paint, yellow and black cardstock, a toilet paper size cardboard roll, scissors, and glue.
Dr. Seuss Truffalo Tree Craft Step by Step Directions
Start with a fresh toilet paper size cardboard roll.
Cut slits around one end of the roll, extending approximately halfway along its length.
Next, fold the slits outward until they lie flat.
Pour your selected paint colors onto a level surface. We prefer using spare paper plates. Since you’ll need plenty of room, it’s ideal to place one paint color on each plate. Coat all the edges of the cardboard roll with one paint color.
Then, start pressing stamps around the paper plate you have chosen for the Truffalo Tree.
Keep stamping until the plate looks as full as you want. Allow a few delicate edges of white to remain visible, resembling the irregular, fluffy borders of the trees in The Lorax.
After the plate has been completely stamped and has dried, cut one long rectangle from the yellow cardstock.
Cut several shorter black strips that are just long enough to span the yellow strip.
Adhere the black strips in a random pattern over the yellow strip.
To finish, attach the top of the yellow strip to the back of the paper plate.
