Let’s create some paper roll ZOO animals today. We’ll begin with a giraffe family, and I’ll return with more animals in the coming weeks. Are you ready to make a paper roll giraffe craft?
I wanted to design a simple recycled craft that requires no special equipment, only materials you probably already have at home. A giraffe seemed like a fun choice for preschoolers and older children.
You could enjoy this project alongside a book such as “Giraffes can’t dance” or watch the film “Madagascar“. Perhaps your child has a beloved giraffe plush toy, or maybe she/he enjoys visiting the ZOO to see the animals. At the Minnesota ZOO, visitors can feed the giraffes. Paper roll giraffe craft
Materials:
Equipment:
- scissors
- paintbrush
- round cup or plastic container
How to create a paper roll giraffe craft
First, paint the paper roll yellow. Put it aside and allow it to dry thoroughly.
Rip the brown paper into tiny pieces.
After the paint has dried, randomly attach the brown paper pieces to the paper roll with glue.
Trace a circle onto yellow paper using a round cup or plastic container. Add two ears connected to the circle, then cut out the giraffe’s head.
At first, I made the giraffes’ ears pointy, but eventually I thought the parents looked nicer with rounded ears. You can decide whether your giraffes should have pointed or rounded ears.
With the same round cup or plastic container, trace a second circle onto brown paper. Cut it out, then draw a curved line along the lower part of the circle to form the snout. Cut along the line.
Attach the snout with glue to the lower section of the head.
Draw the eyes, nostrils, and a smile with a black marker.
Snip two little strips from the brown paper and glue them to the top of the head. They will serve as the horns.
Finally, glue the head onto the top of the paper roll.
