Create a Giraffe Craft for Valentine’s Day

For our Valentine’s Paper Loop Giraffe Craft, gather our Paper Loop Giraffe Template, cardstock in yellow/orange, red, plus a selection of background colors, markers in various shades, small/medium googly eyes, stapler, glue stick, and scissors.

A heart paper punch is helpful too, although the template also contains hearts that can be cut out.

Supplies for the Paper Loop Giraffe Craft

  • Markers – assorted colors
  • Googly eyes, small-medium
  • Stapler
  • Glue stick
  • Scissors
  • Heart paper punch (optional)

Step-by-Step Giraffe Craft Instructions

Start by slicing a sheet of yellow or orange paper in half to create the giraffe’s neck.

Cut the background paper in half, too. We chose blue, purple, and green for our backgrounds, but pink or red would also be lovely for Valentine’s Day.

With a marker, draw hearts in assorted sizes and scattered positions across the yellow/orange sheet.

Next, form the yellow/orange paper into a loop and staple it closed.

Staple the loop near the lower portion of the background sheet, too.

After that, print the giraffe template pieces and cut them out. Trace everything except the hearts onto cardstock matching the neck color. Cut out the traced pieces.

Draw a nose on the oval with a marker, then attach the googly eyes.

Secure the ears with glue.

Attach the ossicones as well. Those are the giraffe’s horn-shaped features. Did you know that’s what they’re called? We discovered it while assembling these giraffes.

Next, use a heart punch or the hearts from our template to create 2 red hearts. Glue one onto the top of each ossicone.

Then attach the finished head to the top of the paper loop.

To finish, use a different marker to add several hearts around the giraffe.

Absolutely adorable! These giraffes are perfect for Valentine’s Day, but they would also be fun to make throughout the year.
