Spring is the perfect time for flowers, and flowers need watering. In my home, though, houseplants outnumber the blooms. I even manage a website dedicated to houseplants. Still, I enjoy flowers as well. That is why we created the sweetest Cardboard Roll Watering Can Craft to celebrate growing anything you choose this spring.
This watering can project makes an incredibly charming spring decoration. To simplify the process, we’ve added a Free Printable Watering Can Template for the handle and spout, although the entire craft can be assembled in just a few minutes. It’s adorable, simple, and ideal for spring!
Spring Watering Can Craft
To make our watering can craft, start by getting our watering can template. You’ll also need toilet paper-sized cardboard rolls, acrylic paint in any colors you prefer, coordinating cardstock, a black sharpie, and scissors.
We decorated the fronts of our watering cans with paper flowers as well. If you decide to do the same, you’ll need a glue stick. Alternatively, stickers or hand-drawn designs would work nicely.
Cardboard Roll Watering Can Craft Supplies Needed
- Watering Can Template
- Acrylic paint – colors of your choice
- Cardboard rolls
- Cardstock – matching colors
- Black sharpie
- Flower embellishments
- Scissors
- Glue stick
Watering Can Cardboard Roll Craft Step by Step Directions
First, select the colors you want to use for your watering cans. Set out the paints and toilet paper-sized cardboard rolls.
Using a straight cut, divide each cardboard roll into two sections.
Next, cover the rolls with the paint colors you selected. Allow them to dry fully.
As the paint dries, print the watering can template. Trace and cut out each shape, then transfer the shapes onto cardstock in coordinating colors for your watering cans. Cut out all the pieces.
With the black sharpie, add dots to the tip of the spout so the water can flow through.
Once the cardboard rolls have dried, cut a slit approximately ⅔ of the way down one side of each roll.
Create shorter slits at the top and bottom of the opposite side of the roll.
Insert the cardstock spout through the longer slit.
Afterward, fit the handle into the slits on the opposite side.
To finish, attach a paper flower or another decoration you like to the front of the watering can.
