Let’s create an extra adorable little Paper Goat Craft! These charming 3d paper goats can be crafted using only printer paper and a few pens, or you can enjoy developing your cutting abilities with a selection of colorful papers. The paper accordion fold is an especially enjoyable crafting method that children will adore – a similar project appears in my Easy Paper Projects book!

This sweet little goat project is suitable for many different crafting occasions – for instance, you might want a goat craft to accompany story time featuring The Three Billy Goats Gruff. You could also create this small Goat as part of a “You’re the Goat” Father’s Day Craft. This paper goat would be perfect for any Farmyard fun craft.. or you might make it as a delightful Year of Goat activity for Chinese New Year 2027!
The Year of the Goat 2027
Lunar New Year 2027 falls on Saturday the 6th February 2027, celebrating the Year of the Goat!
Supplies to make this Accordion Fold 3d Paper Goat!
One wonderful feature of this Paper Goat Craft is that it can be created with JUST PRINTER PAPER and a few pens. Naturally, you can also enjoy cutting out numerous shapes and working with a variety of colours. Our example goat uses white, grey and black.. but brown and black would work beautifully too.. or, for a Year of the Goat 2027 craft, try reds and yellows!
For this video, we used:
- White, grey, yellow and black paper
- Black pens
- Scissors
- Glue stick
- A TEMPLATE*
*Technically, this goat template is NOT essential. As you may know from many of my projects, I adore paper crafts because they are rather like “painting with paper” – cut out a range of shapes and try them out to discover how they suit your craft. You can also experiment with the placement of the goat’s features to create different expressions, just as we did with our Goat Bookmark (scroll down). Therefore, you can decide whether to work with a template or create your own pieces:

As noted, this project has been published ahead of time for you.. over the next couple of weeks, it will be expanded with step by step photos, along with a useful worksheet, additional step photos and the template.
You can also watch this video on YouTube if that is easier for you!
How to make this Paper Goat – written instructions:
Cut out your goat shapes

When creating your own pieces, I usually begin with an oval head and then “build” the remaining shapes around that foundation. You will therefore need to cut out:
- An oval in the preferred size
- Two tear drops or two ovals for ears
- A cloud like shape for the tuff of the goat head
- A (goaty) beard
- Two horns
- 4 grey rectancles for legs
- 4 black retancles with a triangle cut out for hooves
- A curly tail
Together, these pieces create the basic face, four legs with hooves, and the goat’s tail.
Assemble your goat shapes

Join all the body pieces with glue to create:
- A finished head
- Four legs
- A tail

Make the Accordion
Here comes the enjoyable part. We absolutely LOVE accordion folds, and you can experiment with different dimentions as much as you like.
For an accordion fold, use either two equally sized paper strips to form a square body or one wide strip and another half as wide to create a rectangular body.

Take the two lengthy paper strips and attach their ends with glue at a 90° angle. Allow them to dry. Next, fold the lower strip across the upper strip. The paper strips should continue sitting at a 90° angle. Continue folding the bottom strip over the top strip until you reach the ends.
NOTE: this image comes from another craft because the photo is slightly clearer than my white on white back ground, but your accordion fold will be considerably chunkier:

Putting everything together

Next, attach the head and legs to your accordion body!

And there you have it!
