Here’s a charming way to display everything you’re grateful for this Thanksgiving. This Clay Pot Thankful Turkey Craft features jumbo craft sticks as the feathers. Write your thankful thoughts on the feathers, then place them in the clay pot turkey to create an adorable Thanksgiving centerpiece.
This project is extra enjoyable since it’s interactive. It makes a wonderful kids’ craft, while also offering a fun way to include Thanksgiving visitors. Prepare plenty of colorful craft sticks, set out a black sharpie, and invite dinner guests to fill the clay pot turkeys with the things they appreciate this year.
We discovered these small 2-inch clay pots at Dollar Tree. I originally planned to use them for tending houseplants, but they’ve taken on a new purpose in this charming Thanksgiving turkey craft. Simple, budget-friendly holiday projects are the best!
Thanksgiving Clay Pot Turkey Thankful Craft
For this clay pot turkey project, gather 2 inch clay pots, jumbo craft sticks, yellow and red cardstock, small self-adhesive googly eyes, a black sharpie, scissors, and a glue stick.
You’ll additionally need acrylic paint in red, orange, yellow, and brown to create classic turkey feather shades. We also chose green and purple for our turkey feathers.
Clay Pot Turkey Craft Supplies Needed
Thankful Turkey Craft Step by Step Directions
Begin by painting at least 6 jumbo craft sticks. Feel free to use as many as you want—the more filled-out the turkey is, the nicer it looks.
Our craft sticks were painted red, orange, yellow, purple, green, and brown. Allow the paint to dry fully.
As the paint dries, put together the clay pot turkey. Cut a little beak from yellow cardstock and a raindrop-like wattle from red cardstock.
Place self-adhesive googly eyes onto the clay pot. Using adhesive eyes makes this step much simpler.
Secure the beak and wattle with glue as well.
Once the craft sticks have dried completely, write one thing you feel thankful for near the top of each stick with a black sharpie.
To finish, place all the sticks into the turkey clay pot. They serve as bright feathers and provide a lovely way to share all the things we appreciate this Thanksgiving.

Instructions
- Begin by painting at least 6 jumbo craft sticks. Use as many as you prefer—the fuller the turkey, the better.
- We painted our craft sticks red, orange, yellow, purple, green, and brown. Let the paint dry completely.
- While the paint dries, assemble the clay pot turkey. Cut a small beak from yellow cardstock and a raindrop-shaped wattle from red cardstock.
- Attach self-adhesive googly eyes to the clay pot. Adhesive eyes make this task much easier.
- Glue the beak and wattle into position as well.
- After the craft sticks are fully dry, use a black sharpie to write one thing you’re thankful for at the top of every stick.
- Lastly, place all the sticks into the turkey clay pot. The craft sticks become colorful feathers while also offering a wonderful way to share everything we’re grateful for this Thanksgiving.
