We had such a great time creating this Craft Stick Haunted House Craft for Halloween! After all, Halloween definitely calls for a spooky haunted house. The best part is that you can personalize this haunted house with any decorations you want, making each one special.
For our haunted house, we placed black cardstock boards across the door and wrote “Keep Out” on each one with a white paint pen. A silver paint pen helped us add patterns to the roof and chimney. To complete the project, we attached googly eyes inside the windows so they looked like ghosts peeking out.
Popsicle Stick Halloween Haunted House Craft
To create this haunted house craft, gather regular craft sticks, black, yellow, and gray cardstock, a black marker, white and silver paint pens, the tiniest googly eyes, acrylic paint in black along with your preferred colors, scissors, and a glue stick.
For extra decoration, you may also embellish your haunted house with stickers and cutouts.
Craft Stick Haunted House Craft Supplies Needed
- Craft sticks
- Cardstock – black, yellow, gray
- Acrylic paint – black, assorted colors
- Black marker
- Paint pens – white, silver
- Googly eyes, small
- Scissors
- Glue stick
Haunted House Craft Step by Step Directions
Start by collecting 8 standard wooden craft sticks for the house and 3 additional sticks for the roof.
Join the 8 craft sticks together to form the main house. Our favorite simple method is to attach a scrap of cardstock to their backs, then allow enough time for the adhesive to dry. I usually avoid hot glue when crafting with young children, though it can certainly be used as an alternative.
Coat the 8 craft sticks with the colors you have selected.
Cover the 3 roof craft sticks with black paint, then wait until every painted piece is fully dry.
Once the paint has dried, arrange the 3 roof sticks in a triangular design on black cardstock and glue them down. Allow the adhesive to set. Glue dots or hot glue would work here, too.
Trim off any cardstock extending beyond the triangle.
Attach the triangle to the top of the main house, positioning it at a slight slant.
Next, cut a door from gray cardstock and a square window from the yellow cardstock.
Trace around the door and window with a black marker before gluing them onto the house.
Use a silver paint pen to draw accents on the roof. Then cut a black cardstock rectangle for the chimney and decorate it with the silver paint pen, too.
From black cardstock, cut two narrow strips to serve as boards across the door, and glue them into position.
Write “Keep Out” on one of the strips using white paint.
To finish, place a few very small googly eyes in the windows so the ghosts appear to be looking out. Halloween stickers or cutouts can also be added to give your haunted house an extra-fun finishing touch.
