Considering everything happening in the world today, I believe it’s important for all of us to pause and appreciate just how extraordinary our planet is. Children need to understand that even one individual can create a meaningful impact. That idea inspired our Earth Day Handprint Craft.
Children can hold the entire world in their hands—quite literally with this Earth Day project. It’s a delightful activity and a wonderful way to appreciate and celebrate our planet while reminding us to do our part. Each small hand can help carry the whole world.

To make our Earth Day Handprint Craft, gather blue sheets of cardstock along with various colors for the handprints, tissue paper in blue and green, a marker, glue, and scissors. We also used a white marker to add stars surrounding the Earth.
Earth Day Handprint Craft
Supplies needed:
- Cardstock – blue, yellow, purple, and more
- Tissue paper – blue, green
- Marker
- Glue
- Scissors
- White marker (optional)
Start with one complete sheet of blue cardstock. We chose several shades of blue.
First, lightly sketch the Earth onto the cardstock. This is especially useful for younger children because it shows them where each color belongs.
Spread a coat of ordinary school glue around the Earth. Then begin placing torn tissue paper pieces over it.
We selected two different blue shades for the oceans, along with green for the land.
Trace your child’s hand on the cardstock color you prefer.
Cut it out.
Attach the handprint near the bottom of the Earth so it appears to be holding the planet.
Cut off any extra paper along the bottom of the page.
Finally, use a white marker to add stars around the Earth. This step is optional.
