Slime is among our favorite science projects, and whenever possible, we enjoy giving it a seasonal or holiday twist! This fluffy snowman slimemakes an ideal Winter science activity for children! We’ll also show you how to shape your snow slime into both a regular and melted snowman.

This makes an excellent Winter sensory activity. Children will enjoy transforming their fluffy snowman slime into either a classic or melted snowman! They can pull and shape the slime to create a melted snowman face. Once the slime is mixed, the snowman’s buttons and googly eyes may become jumbled together. However, after locating all the pieces, you can remove the buttons and assemble the face once again!
Snowman Slime Recipe
We appreciate how easy fluffy slime is to prepare! Our formula was created to be slightly stretchier than many other fluffy slime recipes you might find. Adding water helps achieve this texture. For a less stretchy result, simply leave out the water.
Fluffy slime is EXTREMELY sticky to prepare. During the mixing and kneading stages, it will initially be quite sticky—and that is completely normal! You need to knead it thoroughly before it reaches a less sticky consistency.
Is your slime too sticky?
If your fluffy slime seems excessively sticky, add a small amount of contact solution. We suggest kneading it longer first so the slime does not become overly firm. You may also apply a little lotion or baby oil to your hands, which can make handling it easier.
How long does fluffy slime last?
Fluffy slime will lose its “fluffiness” within a day. It remains safe to play with the following day, but it will no longer have that fluffy texture. Instead, it will become more like the consistency of ordinary slime. Store it in an airtight container or resealable bag, and it should keep for at least 1 week.

What is Fluffy Snowman Slime?
Fluffy slime is standard slime prepared with shaving cream. Adding more shaving cream makes the mixture fluffier. For this project, we suggest using only 2 cups so that the slime can be shaped into a snowman. Using too much shaving cream will make forming a snowman more difficult.
To ensure your slime turns out properly, read the directions carefully. The glue and contact lens solution you select are especially important. Replacing these ingredients with different brands could cause the slime-making process to fail. We also recommend avoiding substitutions for the brands listed in the recipe.
Fluffy Snowman Slime Recipe

Adult supervision is recommended, and adults should be the ones to prepare the slime. Before starting, review the additional safety advice at the end of this post.
After preparing your fluffy slime, enjoy pulling and pressing it. Compared with regular slime, fluffy slime is somewhat more difficult to stretch. It is primarily designed for the sensory experience of pushing and squishing. This makes it ideal for a melted snowman activity, because children can stretch and press their melted snowman before rebuilding its face!
What is Slime?
Slime is a polymer. Jell-O, chewing gum, and rubber bands are other examples of polymers. Glue is another polymer-based material. A polymer consists of lengthy chains of polyvinyl acetate molecules. These chains move smoothly past each other, allowing the material to be poured.
The Science Behind Slime
Slime-making is enjoyable for children, but it also demonstrates fascinating science! When combining the contact lens solution and glue, explain what is happening to your children. Once the contact solution is added to the glue, it reacts with the glue and creates a viscous material. This mixture becomes slime that can be molded and stretched. Slime develops as the glue molecules connect with the borate ions in the contact lens solution. This bonding prevents the large molecules from sliding freely past each other as they did when the substance was still glue. As a result, slime is formed!

Snowman Slime Ingredients
- 2/3 Cup of Elmer’s White Glue – we prefer purchasing this gallon size of white glue because it offers good value.
Note: this recipe was prepared with Elmer’s white glue. Avoid replacing it with another glue because its ingredients may differ, which could prevent the recipe from working.
- 1/2TeaspoonBicarbonate of Soda
- 2 Cups Shaving Cream – Note: avoid using shaving gel.
- 2 TablespoonsContact Lens Solution –*Important: the contact lens solution you choose must list boric acid and sodium borate among its ingredients. These components react with the glue and create the slime. We suggest Renu fresh or Equate brand. Avoid replacing it with another brand.

Here are the supplies we used to create our snowman:
How to Make Fluffy Snowman Slime
1. Pour the white glue into a bowl.
Next, stir in the baking soda and water until combined.
2.Stir in the shaving cream.
3. Slowly pour in the contact solution.
**Important: the contact lens solution must contain boric acid and sodium borate in its ingredient list. These ingredients react with the glue to make the slime. If slime does not form it is generally because the contact lens solution lacks these ingredients. Review the label and refer to the suggested brands listed above with the ingredients.
We recommend mixing in 1 tablespoon first. After that, add the second tablespoon and keep stirring. When the slime separates from the bowl, remove it and knead it for 10 minutes. It will feel extremely sticky during kneading, which is completely normal!
Note- making fluffy slime can be MESSY. While kneading, it is expected that the slime will cling to your hands. Continue kneading for a minimum of 10 minutes. You may also leave the slime to “rest” on the table for around 5 minutes before playing with it.
If the slime remains overly sticky after kneading, apply a little baby oil or lotion to your hands. More contact solution may also be used, but add only 1 teaspoon at a time. Using too much can make the slime firm.
4. Build your snowman!
Once the slime is finished, gather the snowman supplies and assemble your snowman! Make the nose by cutting orange felt or foam paper. Then use black buttons for the mouth and googly eyes for the eyes.
To make a snowman hat, cut the shape from black cardstock and attach a strip of red glitter paper.
Now it’s time to play with the slime and transform it into a melted snowman if you want! When stored correctly, your snowman slime should keep for at least one week (refer to the storage information earlier in the post).
