Supplies for a crochet Ice Cream
- Yarn in white (or another ice cream flavour shade) and brown
- Yarn remnants for sprinkles
- A suitable hook that matches your yarn
- Filling (we prefer using recycled (and cleaned) pillow stuffing)
- Scissors
- Yarn needle
- Safety eyes in the appropriate size (we used 6mm for the small ice cream – if working with plush yarn, be certain to use safety eyes designed for plush yarn or embroider them on)

- MC – magic circle (though you may also use the alternative magic circle – explained in the book and my Beginner Techniques article)

How to make a Kawaii Crochet Ice Cream
Let’s make an irresistibly cute kawaii Ice Cream: a scoop sitting in a cone. This is your opportunity to learn a new technique. The ice cream “drips” allow you to practice the FLO and BLO stitches
introduced above in the Beginner Techniques section (the book includes a section about them, and I have also prepared a blog post for you today). These are valuable techniques to master because they allow you to form charming details.
Scoop and Cone Crochet Pattern
Begin at the top using white
Rnd 1: 6sc into mc [6]
Rnd 2: 6inc [12]
Rnd 3: (1sc, inc) x6 [18]
Rnd 4: (2sc, inc) x6 [24]
Rnd 5–Rnd 8: 24sc [24]
Rnd 9: In FLO, (1hdc, 1dc and 1hdc into same stitch, slst) x8 [32]
Switch the color to brown.
Rnd 10: In the BLO of the previous rnd, 24sc [24]
Rnd 11: (2sc, dec) x6 [18]
Set the eyes between rnds 6 and 7, approximately 4 or 5 stitches apart. Stitch a mouth
between the eyes.
Rnd 12–Rnd 13: 18sc [18]
Rnd 14: (1sc, dec) x6 [12]
Start filling the ice cream. Continue adding stuffing regularly from this point onward.
Rnd 15–Rnd 16: 12sc [12]
Rnd 17: 6dec [6]
Fasten off and close the opening.
Add sprinkles around the ice cream by stitching them with yarn in assorted colors.
