The only additional item required for this project is the hat. That’s where our Free Printable Scarecrow Hat Template comes in handy! Print it, cut it out, and choose the color you’d like for your scarecrow’s hat. The handprints become the untidy straw hair peeking out from every side!

Fall Handprint Scarecrow Paper Plate Craft

Before beginning our handprint scarecrow project, print the scarecrow hat template.

You’ll also need paper plates, cardstock in yellow and any colors you prefer, buttons, medium-sized googly eyes, tan acrylic paint, a black marker, scissors, and a glue stick.

Handprint Scarecrow Craft Supplies Needed

  • Scarecrow Hat Template
  • Paper plates
  • Cardstock – yellow, choice of colors
  • Tan acrylic paint
  • Black marker
  • Googly eyes, medium
  • Buttons
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick

Paper Plate Scarecrow Craft Step by Step Directions

Start by painting one paper plate tan.

Allow the paint to dry thoroughly.

As the paint dries, print and trim the scarecrow hat template. Select your preferred cardstock colors, trace the hat, and cut it out. You’ll also need to cut a belt strip from a different color.

Attach the strip to the hat with glue.

Trim off the extra pieces along the edges, then attach a button or buckle.

Next, trace and cut out a pair of yellow handprints.

Secure the handprints to either side of the hat.

Once the paper plate has dried, glue the hat and handprints onto the upper portion of the plate.

Attach the googly eyes.

Complete the scarecrow with a black marker by drawing a triangular nose and mouth. Add a few crosshatched lines to the hat to make it look slightly worn and ragged. It’s still incredibly adorable!
