Searching for a simple New Year’s Eve activity for children? Make this Printable New Year’s Hat! All you need to do is print, decorate, and put it together. Best of all, kids can wear their hats once they finish crafting!

Children will have fun decorating a hat of their own for New Year’s Eve! They can pick from 3 designs. Alternatively, print the blank version and let them design a unique hat themselves.
Attach elastic to both sides of the hat to help keep it in place! Craft elastic is available at most craft stores and through Amazon.
Materials to Gather
- White Cardstock – printing on heavier paper is best because it provides more support, especially when elastic will be attached
- Coloring Supplies – such as markers, colored pencils, or crayons
- Scissors
- Pom Poms – we chose 1-inch pom poms
- Hot Glue or Tacky Glue
- Elastic
- Stapler

How to Create a Printable New Year’s Hat
1. Print the templates.
Select one of the 3 designs, or use the blank template.
The free printable files can be found at the end of this post.
2. Trim around the template’s outer black outline.
3. Decorate the templates with color.
Leave the background uncolored, or fill in the entire hat to make your New Years hat even brighter!
4. Bring the template into a cone and secure it with glue.
Spread hot glue or durable tacky glue across the extra tab at the end of the hat template. Then fold the hat into a cone, as shown below.
Apply glue to the additional tab and press the two sides together to create the hat. When using tacky glue, keep the hat held in place until the adhesive dries and the paper sticks together.
5. Attach a pom pom to the top.
Although optional, this step adds a charming finishing touch. With some hot glue and adult help, we placed a 1-inch pom pom on top of the hat.
6. Attach the elastic.
Determine the required elastic length by measuring the child’s head. Snip the elastic and staple one end to each side of the hat. Secure the staples firmly so the elastic does not come loose while the hat is being put on.
These printable New Year’s Eve hats make an enjoyable project for children and adults alike! We especially like that kids can put them on for a New Year’s Eve celebration after completing their creations.
