Skills Needed: None. You’ll be trimming the mesh, curling it, and securing it to a wire frame with pipe cleaners. This Valentine’s Day wreath is simple to assemble since the colors are arranged randomly.
I created plenty of mesh wreaths during the last holiday season. You might say my home experienced a little “mesh-splosion.” Once I finished several wreaths for the holidays, I realized I wasn’t ready to stop making them.
And honestly? My previous attempts at making Valentine’s Day wreaths have been somewhat disappointing. Or, to put it another way, I could have made a greater effort.
That’s when I decided to teach you how to make a deco mesh valentine wreath entirely from the beginning.
Don’t misunderstand me, this wreath is incredibly simple! I did spend a bit more time on it than on earlier projects, but it remains ideal for beginners. It does require some patience, so play a movie. You’ll discover how calming the process can be.
This craft comes together in three simple stages. First, you’ll cut the mesh, followed by cutting the pipe cleaners. Finally, you’ll fasten the mesh onto the wire frame. That’s all!
Mesh Selection
Here are a few details since mesh is available in various widths: this project calls for 6″ deco mesh. Depending on the craft shop, you may only come across 10″ rolls or even wider options.
When necessary, you may trim the mesh both horizontally and vertically. The finished wreath will appear slightly more ruffled.
Finding a Form
A heart wreath frame isn’t required, although I think they’re especially adorable! If you’re fortunate, you can find one at the dollar store. However, they tend to disappear from shelves fast.
To keep costs low, you can choose a round wire wreath frame from the dollar store if the heart shape isn’t important to you. OR, you can purchase a wire wreath frame from Amazon here.

Collect These Materials
- Wire heart wreath frame – 12″
- 6” X 30 ft rolls of decorative mesh
- Pink – 1
- Red – 2
- White – 2
- Chenille pipe cleaners, 12″ – 1 package
- Strong scissors or wire snips
- Measuring ruler
- Craft cutting mat
- Rotary blade (scissors are also suitable, but this tool simplifies the task)

Deco Mesh Heart Wreath
Learn how to create a deco mesh Valentine wreath with a heart-shaped wreath frame.

1 pair of heavy-duty scissors or wire snips

1 rotary blade or pair of scissors
- 1 Wire heart-shaped wreath frame – 12″
- 5 rolls 6” X 30 ft rolls of decorative mesh pink (1), red (2), white (2)
- 1 package Pipe cleaner(s) 12″

Using the rotary cutter, slice several 10″ sections from the mesh in all three shades. You’ll be rolling numerous 10″ x 6″ pieces into tubes, so cut more pieces whenever necessary.

Cut about ten pipe cleaners into four sections apiece. Prepare more pieces as required.

Choose one mesh strip and loosely curl it into a tube. Squeeze the center to create a pinch.

Wrap it around one wire of the wreath frame, then twist a pipe cleaner toward the wire to hold it securely.

Keep applying the remaining mesh pieces, switching between colors in an irregular pattern.

Work your way around until the full wreath form is hidden. Leave the area near the top where the heart joins a little less full so the heart shape remains visible. Display it using a ribbon or nail.
I generally begin with roughly 15 tubes in every color since I know I’ll need at least that amount, then prepare more when necessary.
Step 2: Any pipe cleaner color will work because they won’t be visible. I typically coordinate them with one wreath color or simply choose white.
Step 4: Beginning near the bottom is my suggestion, although you may start wherever you prefer.
