Shamrock Craft with Cotton Ball Stamps

First, you’ll need our shamrock template for this art activity. The other materials are heavy cardstock, acrylic paints in rainbow colors, clothespins and cotton balls for creating the stamps, plus scissors.

Supplies for Shamrock Cotton Ball Stamping

  • Shamrock Template
  • Heavy white cardstock
  • Acrylic paints – red, orange, yellow, greens, blue, purple
  • Clothespins
  • Cotton balls
  • Scissors

Step-by-Step Directions for the Cotton Ball Shamrock Craft

Print the shamrock template onto heavy cardstock, then trim it out. We also traced ours onto green cardstock and cut out that version, though this part is optional. The shamrock itself should be made from heavy cardstock.

Next, collect your rainbow-colored paints and place a small amount of each onto a paper plate.

Create the cotton ball stamps by securing one cotton ball inside a clothespin. Prepare a separate stamp for every color.

Position the shamrock cutout in the middle of a piece of heavy white cardstock. Choose one rainbow shade, dip in a cotton ball, and start stamping around the shamrock.

Try to keep the shamrock from shifting. If needed, gently use a few loops of masking tape to secure it.

Keep stamping until the entire page is covered in rainbow hues.

After stamping around the whole shamrock, carefully lift away the cutout.

You may repeat the activity using several different green paint shades instead.

What a beautiful St. Patrick’s Day art activity—and it’s simple enough for a last-minute project!
