Our Paper Plate Santa Craft is incredibly simple to create! He takes shape using two paper plates layered together, plus a handful of additional materials and steps. This adorable Christmas project is a delightful way to count down the days until the jolly man’s arrival.
Besides the paper plate, the main item you’ll need is cardstock for creating the hat. We also have a Free Printable Santa Hat Template you can use. In fact, it’s the very same hat design featured in our Paper Plate Elf Craft.
After that, just glue all the pieces together to create a Santa made from paper plates. We had a wonderful time putting together this easy Santa project, and we hope you enjoy it as well! It’s a lovely way to embrace the holiday mood.
Santa Paper Plate Christmas Craft
To make our Santa project, begin by printing the Santa hat template.
You’ll additionally need paper plates, tan acrylic paint, cardstock in red, white, and pink, a ⅝” circle paper punch, 1.5″ circle paper punch, scissors, and a glue stick.

Each Santa craft requires two paper plates.
Use tan acrylic paint to cover one of the paper plates. Alternatively, copy our method and combine a small amount of brown with plenty of white until you achieve the desired shade. Allow the paint to dry fully.
As the paint dries, cut away half of the center section from the unpainted paper plate. Since this part may be a little difficult, an adult should handle it.
Also, trim a wavy border around the paper plate.
Next, print the Santa hat template onto red cardstock and cut it out.
Cut a long strip of white paper lengthwise to create the hat’s trim. Attach the white strip along the bottom of the Santa hat with glue, then remove any extra paper around the edges.
Once the paint has dried completely, attach the unpainted white paper plate to the tan plate.
Position the hat at the top of the plate, over the section that was cut out, and glue it in place.
Attach the googly eyes.
Next, use a ⅝” circle paper punch to cut three small circles: one red circle and two pink ones.
Place and glue the two pink circles as Santa’s cheeks.
Attach the red circle to serve as the nose.
To finish this charming paper plate Christmas Santa craft, use a 1.5″ circle paper punch to cut a circle from white paper. Glue the white circle onto the tip of Santa’s hat.

Instructions
- Start by collecting the paper plates. Two paper plates are needed for every Santa craft.
- Cover one paper plate with tan acrylic paint, then let it dry completely.
- While the paint dries, remove half of the inside portion of the unpainted paper plate. This step can be somewhat tricky, so an adult should complete it.
- Also cut a wavy border around the paper plate.
- Next, print the Santa hat template onto red cardstock and cut it out.
- Lengthwise, cut a long white paper strip to use as the hat trim.
- Adhere the white strip along the bottom of the Santa hat.
- Cut off any extra material around the edges.
- After the paint is entirely dry, attach the unpainted white paper plate to the tan plate.
- Place the hat on the upper part of the plate, above the cut-out area, and glue it down.
- Attach the googly eyes.
- Then use a ⅝” circle paper punch to create three small circles: one red and two pink.
- Glue the pink circles onto the plate as the cheeks.
- Position the red circle as the nose and glue it in place.
- Lastly, punch a white paper circle with a 1.5″ circle paper punch. Glue it to the tip of Santa’s hat to finish this adorable paper plate Christmas Santa craft.
